The Lighthouse for Asylees
Since that time, more than 30 people from 20 different countries have found refuge at the Lighthouse.* The generosity of our donors makes it possible for us to provide our guests with cell phones, internet access, food, clothing, transportation, language classes, eyeglasses, toiletries, and much more.
The Lighthouse provides temporary housing for post-release individuals who were forced to flee persecution in their home countries due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group, and who have been released from one of four correctional facilities in NJ. Before arriving at the Lighthouse, our guests have spent upwards of six months to more than a year languishing in detention, even though they have never committed a crime.
The Lighthouse is a partnership between Church of the Incarnation and First Friends of NY and NJ , whose mission is to uphold the inherent dignity and humanity of detained immigrants and asylum seekers by providing compassion and hope through volunteer visitation, resettlement assistance and advocacy. The Lighthouse is housed in the Parish House at The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 68 Storms Avenue, Jersey City, NJ.
Please make a tax-deductible donation to The Lighthouse today. Your generosity will transform lives and provide hope and services to our guests as they establish themselves in their new country.
*Our guests have come from Syria, Iran, Burkina Faso, Honduras, Guatemala, Cameroon, Togo, Somalia, Mexico, Jamaica, Egypt, Jordan, Chad, Djibouti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador, Uganda, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.
Please continue to spread the word about The Lighthouse and help us reach our fundraising goal.
Thank you once again for your generous support!
