The Hangar 1928 @ The Station

Donation protected

The Hangar 1928 @ The Station is a venture startup mechanic workshop for bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, and small engine maintainance. Based in Wynwood, our workshop shed is married to a arts non-profit residence, called the Station, that serves as a meeting place for local artists and creatives.

Last year, I bought my first 50cc and fell in love with the bike and instantly, freedom from Miami's horrible public transit. However, I experienced so many problems keeping the scooter on the road, since it was used, I spent most of the following Summer (and my paycheck!) paying for parts and shifty mechanics.  Good, honest help was hard to come by. Once, I found a local mechanic  shop that charged me $60 to check a simple transimission issue, but during his inspection, not only did he NOT fix the problem, he only mistuned my engine SLOWER. By the turn a single screw!

In Miami, there's thousands of scooters but only a handful of garages that specialize in working with their small motors and parts. Even less still, the other garages that service motorcycles or cars don't work on engines smaller than 300cc, most of commuter cycles.

I got savvy, started watching videos, and connected with a friend co-worker who worked with scooters for years, together we invested months getting all the tools, technical skills, and even built up a small shed to practicing building up our own bikes that we decided to start our own local shop. Now we've cleared a deck, lined up a few motorcycles, and we're ready to serve our community of commuters.

The funds we're aiming to raise is to cover our initial investment on tools and equipment, then to outfit the property to efficiently manage our workload. Also, we have a street team out promoting our brand with banners and signage. Online and on-site, we welcome new customers by appointment to our individual as services at affordable rates. We have further plans to expand parts/tooling, mobile service, and rapid delivery to whereever in the city our customers may get stuck or broken down.

We would like to outreach to the community through youth groups, social clubs, and art collectives in the nearby Overtown and Wynwood neighborhoods, through the efforts of our patron company, Miami's arts non-profit artist alliance, The Waking Hearts, to create fun and safe spaces for young riders to enjoy cycling in our bustling, eclectic city!
