The Barry Family & Harley Davidson

I never thought I would own a Harley but I have a unique story involving a Harley that I’m hoping you’ll hear.

In early 2014, we received terrible news.  My father in law, Roland Barry Sr., was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer… the deadliest, ugliest cancer.  My husband, Roland Barry Jr. and I had 2 girls at the time, Elsie 3 years old and Dorothy, 4 months old.  The day we heard the news, we decided we wouldn’t wait to have another.  We knew that if we had a boy, we would name it after my father in law.  All of the stars aligned and we got pregnant within 2 weeks and Roland III is now 7 months old.

Yesterday, we heard some of the worst news yet.  The chemo treatment isn’t working and the cancer is spreading, specifically, to his liver.  We have some of the best doctors in the world here and they told us that they are going to stop treatment.  We are losing the battle.  We would just make dad comfortable now.

My mother in law, Carol, and Roland have been together for 42 years.  They were sweethearts in grade school… and they are still sweethearts today.  They have 4 children and 8 grandchildren... but their love doesn't end there.  Throughout the years, Roland has been a father figure for many others; the brother who is always there (even at 3 am!), the guiding mentor, the  favorite Uncle, the intelligent teacher, the best friend who has always given great advice, the husband who you've spent every night with and ate every meal next to, and most of all, the strong, humble dad who has supported you your whole life.

This change in their life, this cancer that has torn their world apart,  has been extremely difficult for Carol, as expected.  She has known nothing else.  She doesn’t know if she will be able to stay in the empty house that has been their home for all of these years.  She doesn’t know if she’ll be able to upkeep the BBQs and parties as hostess… without the companionship of her honey by her side.  You build your life with someone who is your soul's mate and when the threat of losing that mate drives up to your house and parks right out front, it makes it hard to sleep.  That fear just looms over your house day after day.

This is where my request for help comes in.   Roland is looking to sell his Harley as soon as possible.  My mother in law can’t use it and she is afraid of it becoming something that will just remind her of what she lost.  They are the original owners and it’s in excellent condition.  I’m hoping to raise the $8000 dollars that they are looking to sell it for so we can give Harley away at a benefit in his name.  I’m hoping you could help me raise this money.   As you could probably assume, they are knee deep in medical expenses already.  My father in law’s wish is that he leaves his wife in a good financial state so she doesn’t need to worry.

I should mention... This man, my father in law, is one of the good ones. One that is always there to help anyone in need. One that is 'quick with a joke or light of your smoke'.  He is the center and rock of our family.

Please help by donating a dollar or two.  If you're not able to donate, please share this link to get it to as many people as possible.  THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for listening and reading our story.

**Update** I changed our goal to $8640 because there is a fee of 8% that will be charged on the donations.  While this is upsetting, we still feel this is the best way to raise the money needed to pay for the Harley.  Thank you again for all of your support!
