Musicians have the unique capacity to unite their communities, give a voice to the voiceless, and expose their culture to the world. PeaceTones' new project, The World United in Song, features 12 original songs and videos from musicians living in refugee camps and post-conflict countries. The music depicts the stories of those who have endured untold suffering, and does so through their own voice. Please view our first video from the Rohingya Refugee Camp, where singers Syed and Rahim tell their story. We need your support in order to continue to tell these stories, with the hope of bettering our world one note at a time. 30092718_15270851240_r.jpeg30092718_15270853270_r.jpeg

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to report that The World United in Song is officially completed and will be released on the PeaceTones record label March 8, 2019 in commemoration of International Women's Day.

I would like to reiterate my thanks to everyone for supporting the project - it's your support that allowed us to see this project to fruition. In my last update I sent a short video of Momi, a prodigy Kora player and singer from Ziguinchor, Senegal. Here's an advance copy of the final version of the song that we recorded, Salia: https://soundcloud.com/out-to-lunch-music/salia/s-rtRAT?in=out-to-lunch-music/sets/the-world-united-in-song/s-3sasg

As well, I am really excited about the song, Dancing in Exile, which fuses Zana, an Iraqi Kurdish refugee on the instrument Tar, with Kareem, a Syrian refugee on percussion. The song uses elements of traditional Middle Eastern music with aspects of experimental music - precisely the concept that I imagined when I first conceived the album. I hope you enjoy: https://soundcloud.com/out-to-lunch-music/dancing-in-exile/s-Chjjd?in=out-to-lunch-music/sets/the-world-united-in-song/s-3sasg

I very much look forward to sharing the whole album on March 8th, along with the videos, which will be released in the months to follow.

With repeated thanks,
David

Dear Friends,

First and foremost, a sincere thank you to everyone for your generous support.

I am delighted to announce that this summer The World United in Song completed recording sessions in Senegal, Turkey, Greece, Italy, UK, Jamaica, and the US. We have now worked with refugees and musicians living in post-conflict countries from: Syria, Iraq, Iran, Senegal, The Gambia, Cameroon, Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, and the United States.

Please enjoy a short video of Momi, a 19-year-old Kora prodigy whom I met on the border of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau (his cousin Secou is playing percussion on the Kora). They will both be featured on The World United in Song, and negotiations are in the process for Momi to perform at the UN Headquarters in New York this November as part of a conference to promote peacebuilding among young artists.

The World United in Song is set to be mixed and mastered in late October and we are excited to be very close to signing a record deal for the release of the album in early 2019. More details to come!

Warmly,
PeaceTones
