JT Albright Lays Siege to Leukemia

Donation protected
On his 30th birthday in August 2018, JT Albright started the day as he normally would; helping his younger brother and father tend to the day’s tasks at Albright Farms, a fourth-generation farm started by his great grandfather in 1905 in Pheonix, MD. He had been battling what he thought was a cold for the past several weeks, but when his vision became blurred while running deliveries JT made his way to urgent care to get checked out. There was bleeding behind his eyes and his blood pressure was so low he was rushed to the emergency room. The next several hours became a blur as he received 4 pints of blood, countless IV’s and awaited the diagnosis that would change his life and threaten the future of his family’s farm. He had Leukemia and was fortunate to be alive.

With the help of his excellent medical team, JT has battled his diagnosis like a true warrior and is showing signs of making a strong recovery. Though, unfortunately, this isn’t the case for many others who receive a cancer diagnosis.

Since beginning his treatment, JT has passed time catching up on things which he always loved; namely, medieval history and primitive weaponry. Knowing this, his childhood friend Ben and local mad scientist Jonathan had the idea to bring a piece of history to life in order to raise awareness and assist his family with medical bills. They decided to build a trebuchet.

What is a Trebuchet?

A trebuchet is a type of catapult that utilizes a lever and counterweight to throw a projectile very far and very fast. Jon, a professional fabricator, and Ben, a master machinist, are partnering with the Pennsylvania Steel Company to donate their time, machinery, and skills in order to engineer, fabricate, and execute this unique and storied piece of medieval history. They are designing a fully engineered, hand-crafted metal trebuchet that will stand 9ft off the ground with a 500 pound counterweight to launch pumpkins and watermelons into the stratosphere to benefit the Albright Medical Trust.

Everyone who donates will be invited to our "Launch Party" where you'll see the trebuchet in action and witness the culmination of a project that you backed from the beginning.

While a noble cause is reason enough to help someone in need, we thought bringing a badass piece of medieval weaponry into existence to assist with JT’s charity would really make an IMPACT that couldn’t be ignored!

Even the smallest donation counts! If you can’t contribute monetarily, please share our project on social media to help bring this dream to reality!

Who are the builders? Jon is a professional Fabricator and owner of Monstercraftsman.com, and Ben is a master machinist and owner of his own machine shop, BT Manufacturing. We are a fully capable team with professional skills and a flare for the creative.

Pennsylvania Steel, based in Bensalem, Pa, has graciously offered to sponsor the financial cost of the trebuchet which will be roughly 1,000 lbs of American-made steel.

PA Steel is deeply rooted in the blue collar trades and wanted to help see this unique project to life. The team at PA Steel values teamwork and top-notch customer service to deliver quality product at competitive prices. What’s more, their next day delivery has made them our go-to for metal needs within our (Jon and Ben’s) personal businesses and we are excited that they have volunteered their resources to help out and give back. It’s something companies often talk about, but few actually do. Props to PA Steel!

When JT's financial goal is met you will be invited to an official Trebuchet LAUNCH party in the beautiful Baltimore countryside. For out-of-state contributors, a live feed will be broadcasted from the event so you can still be there in spirit and comment in person!

Everyone who donates $100 or more will receive a professionally designed t-shirt which we know you will be proud to wear.

As the build commences, we will take you through our behind-the-scenes processes showing our design from 3D CAD to videos of us fabricating and machining components of the Trebuchet with explanations of what we are doing via our Facebook group, " The Trebuchet Heard Round The World" which you are invited to join through the link below!
