The Swan Song Project

The Swan Song Project gives those facing end of life the opportunity to write and record an original song.

The project was launched at Marie Curie Hospice Bradford in May 2017 and has had great results so far. The sessions are facilitated by a professional songwriter and are open to patients, carers, friends, families and the bereaved. This opportunity is used by participants to explore their thoughts, express their emotions, tell their story and record a beautiful message for their loved ones.

Every participant is then given their song on a cd and has the option of sharing it on the Swan Song Project website.

We are now expanding the project continuing it's development in the hospice and also offering it to the wider public. Anyone who would like to take part is welcome to contact me directly and arrange a session at swansongprojectuk@gmail.com.

Here are some quotes from participants so far:
“amazing experience ....it has been so lovely to talk through my story.....my family cried”
“It made me happy”
“never in a million years did I think I would listen to myself on a CD and it is was a great experience.”
“it's my birthday today and the gift of this song is brilliant. I may play it at my funeral but most importantly my family can listen to it. I get lonely and this has really given me a project to concentrate on.”

Here is a recent article from the Telegraph and Argus about the Project -  http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/features/news_real/15510327.The_songwriter_helping_terminally_ill_people_tell_their_life_story___in_a_song/

We are in the process of setting up The Swan Song Project as it's own organisation with charitable status. This will allow us to apply for more grants to hopefully secure the future of the project. All donations are greatly appreciated and the project has very little in the way of overheads so the majority of the money goes to funding the actual contact time with participants.

Thank you so much for your support.

My brother (Martin Slack) has been running ultra marathons for several years now and is preparing for his biggest one yet. On July 7th he will be running the Great Glen Ultra in Scotland which is 71 miles from Fort William to Inverness. The runners start at 1am and have 22 hours to complete the race. Sounds tough right?
He has very kindly decided to run this race in aid of The Swan Song Project and is asking sponsorship donations to be made to this gofundmepage. We're incredibly grateful to Martin for this and I'm sure you'll agree it's one hell of a challenge he is taking on and deserves plenty of support.
He also plans to give away his Scottish Crystal Great Glen Ultra 2018 Whiskey Glass which he receives for taking part (picture below). A random sponsor will be chosen at the end to get the glass.
We are also happy to offer a Swan Song Project wristband for every donation over £5 and a Swan Song Project Pen for every donation over £10 (Please comment with your donation to arrange getting these).
You can read Martin's excellent about all of his training and preparation for the big race here - https://runningbear.svbtle.com/. It's always an inspiring read.
Please give generously and support this amazing endeavor.
