Seed The Realm Reawakened
I love making games that people want to play!
I'm also the original designer and developer of The Realm Online. The Realm Online was one of the first graphical massively multiplayer online games ever made.

It was published by Sierra On-line back in 1996 and used the familiar and accessible point-and-click adventure style popularized by the Kings Quest game series. This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Realm Online's commercial launch. The current owners of the game have allowed it to lapse into deep neglect. The servers aren't staying up and the game is on it's last legs.
Yes, the original game is still up and running 20 years later! :-)
I'm making it my personal goal to lead the production and launch of a spiritual successor to this Internet classic.
The working title of the new game is "The Realm: Reawakened."

Building a quality game of this magnitude will take money and considerable preproduction work. I'd like to launch a Kickstarter campaign in February/March to raise money for production of the game.
I'm personally bankrolling what portions I can of the preproduction work. This includes server setup, initial coding, software purchases, and concept artwork commissioning.
Sadly, though, I'm not made of money! I'm looking to raise up to $50,000 to help bankroll the remaining preproduction work for the game.
This money will be used for:
1. Funding prototype development.
2. Creating concept art, mockups, and prototype art for the game.
3. Inbound marketing and awareness building for the coming Kickstarter campaign.
It's my belief that The Realm: Reawakened has the potential to entertain a lot of people. The simple point-and-cick adventure style is very accessible and encourages a form of social play not found in many other products.
The original game has touched a great many people, fostered lifelong relationships, and helped to define what online gaming meant for countless folks. I want to bring that experience to more people!
I also believe that, with proper funding, we can release a playable version of The Realm: Reawakened in 2016. The first step on that journey, though, is driving the preproduction and preparing to fundraise on Kickstarter.
I'm excited to bring the timeless fun of The Realm: Reawakened to a new generation of players. Won't you help me realize this vision? Donate what you can so that the game can get off to a great start and the Kickstarter campaign can be a smashing success!
Thanks for reading. :-)
The forums are hopping with activity though. If you haven't checked them out, you should!
We're beginning to hash out some core game mechanics as well. Feel free to review and chime in on the idea of levels in The Realm: Reawakened.
In 1982's Taipan!, if you dealt with Money Lender Wu, it was possible to overpay Wu, and ring up negative debt and quickly surpass the 1000 trillion money mark. The programmer verified that you didn't pay Wu more than you had.. but didn't verify that you didn't pay Wu more than your debt. Realm seemed to have been built around the concept of a trusted client - with the server accepting data from the client and doing little if any verification of the data passed to it to make sure end users weren't modifying values in memory on the local client. How have your coding practices and MMORP design criteria changed to deal with issues like these? Will your code be checked by team members, verified by penetration testers, and fellow design personnel during the planning stages, or other proactive method - to dramatically reduce the chances of "overpaying Wu" type errors from occurring in the new project? Can you describe how your time management skills have improved in the past 15 years? i.e. is there a iOT (internet of things) dog shock collar that will go off every time the term "*soon*" is used? :)
Is this page for Vanguard Saga of Heroes?
An update?? Anything?
Loved this game - I was inspired by this GoFundMe to post my old Realm files (info, articles, etc) - http://www.ConeyLove.com/realm.html
I played the realm for years after they mooffed the mages hat I gave up it was not worth 6 bucks a month with very few updates and after you max out your char whats left I remember the realm gatherings my family had6 accounts my daughter did a month sub a while back just to check it out she was not impressed it will be hard to get a following like it once had before norseman got it
Seem to have the amount of support as the game currently has players. How will you expand your reach to realmers from way back? How will you appeal to the younger generation while still remaining true to the original? Will the game be free to play with micro transactions, or subscription based? Lots of questions with very little information.
You going to bring it Back for Free or would it Cost us? Either way I'm All in
I remember getting my trial The Realm Online CD with Betrayal at Krondor. The game was version 2.x at the time and loved every bit of it - and even more so when 3.x came out. Lots of good memories.
Contact me, and I'll give a minor critique on some of the writing on this page.. (/t Stephen I'm still a grammar/spelling nazi. )
I just meant like maybe screens of TRO so people would have an easier time seeing it and like 'OH! I remember THAT!' :p ♥
