The Progressive Media Project

Tax deductible
“The Progressive Media Project is critically needed to engage the American public on issues affecting once silenced communities.”—Mark Anthony Rolo, Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

For 25 years, hundreds of activists and nonprofits have distributed their views in our nation’s op-ed pages with the help of The Progressive magazine.

"The Progressive Media Project (PMP) is an invaluable asset to organizations that are working to build a fairer, greener future. Our partnership with PMP enables us to bring new voices and ideas to a broad swath of the American public." —Laurie Mazur, Editor Island Press

Diversifying our nation’s op-ed pages is the mission of the Progressive Media Project, which trains diverse and marginalized citizens how to write powerful op-eds.

The work does not stop there. The editorial staff at The Progressive solicit, edit, and distribute op-eds nationally, using the Tribune News Service, to reach a potential readership of more than 150 million readers each year.

But for this critical project to continue, we need your help.

“As a black queer mother there are not many avenues in the mainstream media to have my voice heard. PMP provides the avenue and does it well. I am forever in their debt."—Kiki Monifa, Editor-in-Chief of BlackHistoryEveryday.com, Co-Founder/Co-Publisher and Principle Blogger/Vlogger- ARISE 2.0

Progressive Media Project op-eds have run in the Chicago Tribune, Newsday, Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News, Houston Chronicle, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Charlotte Observer, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, and more.

“PMP is an indispensable partner laser-focused on helping to amplify the voices of working people.”  —Héctor Figueroa- President of SEIU 32BJ

As we approach the elections of 2020, it’s more important than ever to foster a diverse public conversation and to hear from voices on the margins.

The Progressive is raising $10,000 to reach a new group of op-ed writers with hands-on trainings on how to write effective op-eds, and to publish opinion pieces from groups that need to be heard.

Please, help us open doors for grassroots activists and small nonprofits to access the national media.
