The Humble Hundred
Donation protected
We are hoping to raise money equally for both SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families, Association) and the RBL (The Royal British Legion).
Our aim is to walk 100 miles and visit 100 War Memorials, in our Home County of Devon, throughout the month of November.
We are a Home Educating family of ten, YES I said ten! This is our way to commemorate the Centenary of the ending of World War 1, and educate our children about the sacrifices made by individuals, families and communities.
Over the course of each centenary year (2014-2018) we have been visiting memorial events, museums, art installations and exhibitions, on a National and County level, to engage the children, and provoke thought.
While 100 years seems a very long time, almost every family has some photograph, story, trinket or heirloom from 100+ years ago. One of our grandfathers was born over 100 years ago, and all of our great-grandparents lived through the First World War.
We hope to bring these ageless heroes to life for our children. At each War Memorial we visit, we will select a name to research, to discover the history of the person, not just the name. We will also hold a short ceremony at each Memorial, reading an appropriate poem and taking a photograph to commemorate our visit.
