The Happy Flower Day Project - Free Flowers

Donation protected

KEEP CALM AND FLOWER ON - THE POWER OF GIVING AWAY FREE FLOWERS - since May, 2013.

MY WISH  - a new or gently-used SUV or van to deliver free flowers to people who need hope, friendship, and healing.

I deliver "FLOWER FREEBIES"  - bright day-old flowers to residents of senior living communities, just as a volunteer doing flowery and colorful random acts of blooming smiles.

The donations of flowers are day-old or surplus petals and blooms. I collect the lovely bouquets from grocery stores every morning, and then send a silent prayer towards the heavens and ask, "God, who needs the gift of a beautiful bouquet? Show me anyone who is feeling down, who needs hope,  or a smile."

My internal, God-inspired GPS leads me to half-way houses, AIDS hospices, chemo-waiting rooms, nursing homes, and even to random bus stops, and train stations. Since May of 2013, I have had the privilege of delivering more than 65,000 bouquets of fresh flowers. Many days, I have more than 200 bouquets to pass out to strangers. And from the looks on recipients'  faces, their problems seem to melt  if only for a moment.

My mission  of "re-gifting" day old bouquets leads me  to caregivers, medical personnel, shut-ins, and others that I meet along my daily route.

Since I have a small KIA with 190,000 miles on it, I often have to make two trips to pick up the flowers. I am "wishing" for the funds to enable me to purchase a "flower-shuttle"  - an SUV or van - with more space to carry more flowers, to take more flowers on the road, to brighten more days for people who are grieving, healing, lonely, worried, addicted, or homeless.

Let there be flowers! Let there be smiles!

The Happy Flower Day message?  THAT A TINY SEED OF LOVE IS ALL IT TAKES TO MAKE LOVE BLOOM.

GIVING VIBRANT, FRESH, COLORFUL, RECYCLED FLOWERS TO STRANGERS IS FREE AND FUN. And flower sharing is the recipe for a glorious day.

Thank you for your support of any amount.

Yes, the best things in life are certainly free.

I know that most people do not have the time or energy to do this outreach.  You can share in the joy of knowing that there is a one hundred percent chance of your support of any amount BLOOMING SMILES. No matter how small a donation, it means a whole lot!

Thank you for helping me to bring sunshine to others. I appreciate you being a FLOWER FRIEND to the "rescued" flowers that are getting a new chance to show love.

With much gratitude,

It is hard because I can’t visit my mother in the nursing home now. No visitors allowed, and she can’t communicate with her roommate. I can drop these flowers off for her at the reception desk.

My mother and father were in the same nursing home room together. She passed away in April. My father is 88 and has a roommate now. The man had a stroke and can't talk to my father. He loves gardening, music, and reading. He will love the flowers.

I am new here. Do you bring the flowers here every week?

I am going to give these tulips to my neighbor. She fell and broke her pelvis and has two black eyes.

I am going to give these flowers to the girl who brings my meals to me.

Can my son have some flowers to give to his grandmother?

I don't want to be greedy but I know ten people who would love to have flowers.

Can I have one bouquet for my friend who has cancer?

I gave one bouquet to the Spanish lady at the store. She takes good care of me.

It is my daughter's birthday. Now I have a gift for her.

These flowers remind me of my wife. Her name was Gladys. I gave her gladiolus flowers every Saturday.

Oh, I would love the pink roses to match my living room. I am going to put these buds around my bathtub with some candles, and play some soothing music. I am a nurse. I need self-care right now.

These carnations are great for me to give to my girlfriend.

We have 20 aides working here. I can give  the roses out. It will help with the failing morale. Our employees are struggling, amidst so much sadness in this nursing home.

I am going to put all of these petals and blooms in my car now, and pass them along to my neighbors when I get home.

My grandfather died this week. My 21-year-old nephew died last week.

Being a gerontologist is hard now. When I worked in a hospital, we had what we needed. But now, with the pandemic, I am working in a different capacity, and that has challenges.

My coworkers will love these flowers.

It is so nice to get flowers when it is not for a funeral. I know all about that. I lost three of my children and my husband.

Our receptionist just called the activity director. She is on her way down with a cart. Our volunteer is going to put the flowers on the windowsills, around the  lobby, and on the nightstands in the residents' rooms,
