What if our life’s legacy was narrowed down to a piece of cloth with a few embroidered lines left behind for others to find? What would you read about my story, and what would I read about yours?
My name is Melea J. Brock. I am a storyteller and a writer who has always desired to raise hope in my listeners and readers and my desire is bringing hope in the form of a Christmas book called “The Green Velvet Christmas Dress”.
The Green Velvet Christmas Dress is the story of a handmade dress that passes through the lives and hands of more than six different women, each living her story generations from one another. Woven into this storytelling is the appealing hope of Christmas that welcomes all of us to anticipate, reflect, and remember.
The story began as a play and it had a great two-year run. The impact it had upon its audiences spurred me on to write the book, adding more identifiable male and female characters and many details that a play can’t quite offer in its more focused storytelling.
The audience/listeners for the book are all ages – a mature 10-year old reader through adult. It was an oral story first, and so I have tried to be true to this in the writing style of the book. It addresses the sensitive topic of death and grief, as well as that of being a good neighbor and serving others, childbirth, family, friendship, the hardships of war, hospital and rehabilitation therapy, God and our relationship with him in our story… and more. And best of all---Christmas weaves in and out of its pages.
The cost of the making of a hardbound quality book (with illustrations) is my financial challenge. I do a great deal of my work in gift or trade with schools, churches, and groups. I also give many of my books away to schools, non-profits, and ministries. We simply need the generous help of someone like you to produce the book.
