The Good Turn Project

Donation protected

1% of the entire population of the Philippines are children that are “abandoned or neglected” according to the United Nations’ Children’s Rights and Emergency Relief Organization. That is 1.8 million children in the Philippines.

Our Story

Dennise and I have been planning on finally visiting our home country of the Philippines ever since May of 2017. It has only been a mere two years since I have been home, but it has almost been twelve years since Dennise has visited her family. After finally saving up for our flights and our spending money, we realized we wanted to do more. Instead of the typical island hopping, we decided we wanted to give back.

We both grew up in the circumstance of knowing what it is like to be hungry and now living a life of abundance, we wanted to give back and honor our trip home to help nourish and put smiles on the faces of children in two different orphanages, one in Pampanga and one in Davao City, where we grew up.

Mission

The Good Turn Project is an up-and-coming non-profit organization with a mission to provide and nourish basic necessities and nutritious food to two different orphanages in two different islands in the Philippines.

Goal

Through the success of our fundraisers and efforts in the Philippines, we plan to move forward to attain our 501(c)3 and taking on more missions, providing nutritious foods and basic necessities to poverty stricken areas throughout the world.

Our Founders

Eejay Magat
Earl (Eejay) Magat is currently 20 years old attending Rhode Island College in pursuit of his Accounting Degree. He grew up in Pampanga, Philippines from when he was born to the age of six. Due to the poverty levels of his family, his father moved to London in 2001 and his mother followed the following year, Eejay and his brothers lived with their grandparents while his parents developed a promising future for them in London. Eejay and his siblings followed their parents to London in 2003. Living there for three years, a better opportunity arose, where Eejay’s father was offered a better opportunity in the U.S. in 2006. They have been living in the states ever since. Living in the states, Eejay spent his days as a Boy Scout where he attained the highest level of the program, Eagle Scout. He was also a founding member of the Mary Mother of Mankind’s Mission Possible; Youth called to Serve which is a religious youth organization made up of post-confirmation students serving their community.. With both organizations, Eejay spent most of his life in the States outdoors and serving the less fortunate.

Dennise Dumapias
Deendrah Dennise Dumapias is currently 23 years old, an alumni of Rhode Island College Class of 2016. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design. She grew up in Davao City, Philippines until she was 13 years old. In 2006, her parents were offered a promising future in the U.S. Her parents decided to build their future in the states before they brought their kids abroad. In the time being, Dennise gave up her childhood and took up the roll of a parent for her siblings who were only 5, 4, and 2 year old siblings. She spent her days budgeting the allowances her parents sent from the states, fed her siblings, dressed them up for school, and watched over them while her parents were preparing the life they wanted for their family. But due to the situation they were living in, Dennise’s 2 year old brother was taken away from them by her grandparents. It wasn’t until the following year where Dennise and her siblings were able to follow their parents to the states, where she spent most of her time volunteering at nursing homes where her mom used to work and later joining Eejay and Mission Possible in serving the community.
