The Fearless 11: Provine High School Documentary
I had a conversation with my dad a few years ago that gave me the initial idea for my documentary . While we looked through his high school year book together, he shared with me that he was one of the first students to integrate Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi.
During the 60's "Freedom of Choice" plans were developed to encourage school integration. He along with 10 other students made the decision to attend the school which at the time was white only. I was surprised that their story hadn't been documented.
Out of the 11 students that integrated Provine in 1965, 7 are still living. Of those 7, I was able to get in touch with 6 by phone. They shared with me their experiences and memories during that time.
My goal for the documentary is to preserve their stories and their history. I also plan to include the perspectives of white students that attended that year, former and current Provine faculty and staff, and historians.
Once completed I will work towards having the documentary screened at the Jackson Museum of Mississpi History. I also plan to submit the film to various film festivals.
As a new filmmaker my resources are limited. All donations received will assist me with the cost of filming, editing, and producing the project. Donations will also go towards obtaining archives to include in the documentary.
Your contribution would be greatly appreciated.
