Blind equestrian’s ride against cancer
On 6 October, Paralympian Sue-Ellen Lovett is riding more than 800km across the Central Western NSW outback to ride against cancer and raise money for the new Western Cancer Centre Dubbo.
Despite being totally blind, Sue-Ellen is looking forward to the challenge of riding from Dubbo to Geurie, Wellington, Goolma, Mudgee, Gulgong, Dunedoo, Coolah, Binnaway, Mendooran, Gilgandra, Collie, Warren, Trangie, Narromine and returning to Dubbo on 21 October.
Sue-Ellen experienced some major challenges in her life when she was diagnosed with a hereditary eye disease at 12 years old that, over time, left her totally blind. Sue is also a cancer survivor and feels passionate about helping other patients in her community.
“I understand the difficulty of leaving home and loved-ones to travel long distances for cancer treatment. The new cancer centre in Dubbo will bring life-saving treatment much closer to home, which will have a really positive impact on them and their families.”
Money raised for “The Challenge – Ride Against Cancer” will go towards a Wellness Space within the new cancer centre, which will provide support, education and well-being services to patients and families during treatment.
In the lead up to the big ride, a cocktail party will be held on Saturday 22 September and tickets sales will also go towards Sue-Ellen’s fundraising efforts. Tickets are $70 and can be purchased at the Castlereagh Hotel. The night will include drinks, canapes and some inspirational speakers.
