You walk through a door. Your heart beats. Your head buzzes. Sweat rolls down your temple. It feels like you can’t breath. Our personal, secret catalogues of micro-terrors shape our lives. From November 24th – December 4th Theatre Yes’s ANXIETY will challenge audiences to explore the underbelly of fight or flight as they journey through this one-of-a-kind immersive performance experience, scored by renowned sound artist Gary James Joynes in collaboration with 6 of Canada’s most inventive small theatre companies. ANXIETY is a pan-Canadian Collaboration creates ONE unforgettable found-space work, sculpted by Edmonton Playwright Cat Walsh and Theatre Yes. Northern Light Theatre from (Edmonton), Theatre Skam (Victoria) and Outside the March (Toronto), LoHiFi Production (Halifax) and Curtain Razors (Regina) ad Théâtre à corps perdus (Montreal) have received mysterious objects, artifacts which have triggered the creation of 6 interactive performance installations not to be missed.

Our Current Project:
ANXIETY is a national collaboration uniting seven small scale companies from across Canada in an immersive, interactive theatrical happening. We have not just asked these companies to collaborate at a distance, for the weeks leading up to the production we are flying each group from their home base to join us in Edmonton so that we can work and learn side by side with peers from all over the country.

Anxiety is an important undertaking, as it introduces a new and exciting vitality to the idea what small independant theatre can be. It is fundamentaly about Art and the intermingling of Canada's strong and diverse artistic voices.

So ......Thats all well and good, but what is the project?
The basics are this.

-Theatre Yes has teamed up with six
small-scale theatre companies from across the country.

-Each of them has be sent an inspirational artifact on which to build an experience for the audience.

-The pieces reflect or suggest an anxiety of some description.

-Local Edmonton playwright Cat Walsh has written a piece that is the connective tissue for the event as a whole.

-Aside from that.... SPOILERS

What We Need:
ANXIETY is an unprecedented and ambitious project that proposes a model for theatre creation that has never been tried before. The fact is WE ARE DOING THIS!!!! we believe in the project, we're excited by the format, and are thrilled to be working with the companies who accepted our invitaion to play.
That said, one fact remains true. We are a small theatre company and our shoulders are only so broad.
Theater Yes is a company built on the hard work, good will, and countless volunteer hours of amazing artists crossing multiple disciplines.

What we are asking for is a little extra to help us run this project with the finesse and madcap daring that we endeavour put into all of our projects.
We cannot promise that a donation will get you a t-shirt or a hot beverage thermal mug with free balloons for the kids....frankly we want to spend the money on art and creating a  daring adventure for our audience..... if you really want a T- shirt here's our logo.

We do however invite you to become an important part of this a groundbreaking Canadian work by contributing.

From The Beginning:
About two years ago Heather Inglis and Murray Cullen were sitting dreaming up ideas to follow Theatre Yes's wonderfully successful run of the National Elevator Project (Co-curated by Heather Inglis and Melissa Thingelstad).

For those who dont know, the NEP was part of a mission to expand the idea of what a small theatre in Canada is capable of in regards to interconnectedness and collaboration.

The NEP (which took place in two parts) consisted of 16 short plays performed in elevators scattered across downtown Edmonton. The plays in question were written by noted playwrites spanning the country from Newfoundland to Vancouver.

We at Theatre Yes were thrilled with the results of this national dialogue; the quality of the work we recieved, the diversity of voices and styles, and simply the opportunity to introduce artists from one end of the country to atrists from the other was something special that we wanted to hold onto.
This line of thought is what lead us to ANXIETY.

Anxiety is a driving force in our lives, as well as a pair of shackles holding many of us back. It is a constant voice of "what if" that equally mocks and encourages.
"What if you fail?" " What if you regret  not trying? You'll regret it for the rest of your life?"
We  at Theatre Yes have taken to using the equation
Fear+Time=Anxiety , it is our fight or flight response stretched out like a thin blanket over even our slightest worries.

Media both Corperate and Social are continually informiing us that we are on the brink!!!!....So here's some kittens to help you cope.
(we claim no ownership of this adorable cat video)

This strange dichotomy, together with the near epidemic levels of anxiety felt around the world these days drew us into a deepened intrest in the subject.

This is a big project.
We have a saying in our company: "Break it in to small managable tasks."
Small contributions add up to a lot for our small theatre company that does big things.

Cheers,
