THE 50 DAYS OF DRUMMER:
50 GIGS/RECORDING SESSIONS
50 DIFFERENT BANDS
50 DIFFERENT GENRES OF MUSIC

The show, the film, the book, the album…the challenge.

Hiya,

So, I consider myself to be a flexible drummer. But can I play EVERY style of music? Nah, probably not. But can I learn how to? And play it live (or record), 50 different genres, with 50 different acts? Hhmm. We’ll soon find out…

I’ve researched the most popular genres of music, and, when you take out any duplicates, I ended with 42 results. I then asked my friends on Facebook for suggestions, and made up the list to 50, using the first 8 suggestions that came in that weren’t already there. I regret this decision slightly, but I’m sticking to my word.

The ultimate goal is simple: to give greater exposure to genres which perhaps many aren’t aware of. To meet, play with, and interview those who perform it and, of course, learn to play it myself. It’ll mostly be okay, I think, but there will be moments where I’m probably, totally, musically, out of my depth.

Is it possible to find bands that play every genre in the list? What the hell even is ‘Trap Music’? And look at me, I’m a jazzy/poppy drummer, can you imagine this lanky dude with a side-parting and permanent smile playing a heavy-metal gig? Well, you won’t have to imagine for much longer, because it’s totally happening!

Maybe, some of these genres are so popular in musical circles but we’re just not aware of them? The film will enlighten us all!

I’ll be playing either a gig, or recording, the following styles of music:

Hip-Hop Music, Pop Music, Country Music, R&B, Rock, Jazz, Rap, Blues, Folk, Electronic Music, Music of the United States, Classical Music, Alternative Rock, Reggae, Punk, Gospel, Soul, Indie, Heavy Metal, Disco, Rock n Roll, Funk, Opera, World Music, House Music, Dance, Techno, New Wave, Grunge, Soundtrack, Instrumental, Music of Latin America, Electro, Classical, Ballad, Hard Rock, Big Band, Trap Music, Dubstep, Prog Rock, Cumbia, Parody, Death Jazz Metal, Deep Discofox, Neurofunk, Turbofolk Chamber Folk, Electroswing, Irish Traditional and, er, Equine Stoner Metal.

Being such a musically adventurous, potentially complicated challenge, the reason for this Crowdfunding page is because I want to be able to document and present the results in the most professional manner…for the film/documentary version, this won’t be all made on my mobile as before, I’ll be looking to bring in professional movie-making types for this, for the sound in particular.

For the book there will be an external editor/proof-reader, for the stage-show there will be a director. Basically, it’s all gonna be rather awesome.

The chances are, I won’t be able to find (or convince) all of the acts locally, so this will involve a lot of travelling, a lot of time and probably, let’s the honest, the odd disaster. Is it possible? Really not sure, which is mostly the reason why I want to do it.

As always, I’ll keep you posted every bit of the way with video clips, pictures, I imagine the odd breakdown. The usual.

If you’re interested in being part of this adventure, there are of course wonderful rewards available, which are listed below. This is going to be an interesting, probably stressful, but let’s stick with interesting, musical adventure. 50 gigs (or recordings), 50 different acts, 50 different styles of music. The 50 Days of Drummer.

It would be amazing to have you involved.

Much love,

Paul
