The 2018 Air Quality Investigation

The Utah Investigative Journalism Project is the only 501(c)3 nonprofit in Utah dedicated to fearless and impactful watchdog reporting. This year we're looking for help to support a longterm investigation into the miserable state of air quality in Utah and especially along the Wasatch Front.

This investigation will look at everything from polluters and public transit to the nuts and bolts of how air quality regulators in the state work--or don't work, as critics say--in protecting the air we breathe.


Funds will be used to cover costly research costs through public records requests (GRAMAs & FOIAs) as well to compensate staff and contributors for time reporting, researching and travelling to front line communities. Your donations are tax-deductible, but please note as part of The Utah Investigative Journalism Project's transparency policy that all donors' names and the amount of their donation will be listed on the nonprofit's website.


It is the goal of The Utah Investigative Journalism Project to take the time through the year to comprehensively research this problem and publish our finding in articles or news stories through our media partners. Our major partner for stories is The Salt Lake Tribune though we have other media partnerships with other outlets as well that stories might appear in.
