Thai Street Paws Rescue
I am an Australian teacher, living in the south of Thailand. My mission here is to rescue, adopt, sterilize, treat and love as many street dogs as possible.
GoFundMe donations will go towards daily expenses to keep Thai Street Paws running. For items such as rice, produce and meat used to prepare food for shelter dogs as well as street dogs; medication to prevent blood parasite, tick/flea preventative, antibiotics, heartworm preventative, foster home expenses, sterilisations and much more.
The greatest obstacle I face right now is not owning a car. Having a reliable vehicle is critical to buying food and supplies, daily feeding and the transportation of dogs for veterinary care. In the end, I have realized that without a car, I am of little or no help to the dogs I've been working so hard to help for so long. By helping me to purchase a secondhand vehicle to use for my rescue activities, you would be contributing directly to ensuring these animals are fed and cared for.
My future goal, if funds allow, is to create a basic space to use as a clinic where dogs can be sterilized, recover and then released or placed in foster care to await their forever home. Sterilization is a huge expense in my budget, but necessary to stop the cycle of street dog reproduction. Having a basic clinic where sterilizations could be done locally would make a huge impact in the work I do and the future of Songkhla
Please note that my sister Nadia Johnston is attached to my gofundme, as she resides in the USA and the funds are sent to me via her.
Thank you for caring!
One of our long term foster home dogs was attacked by other dogs, due to a door being left open. Some people disagree with me separating dogs. The results when you don't, is surgery stitching up many massive wounds. I am so sorry Cindy girl.
Yuki Chan and Chino recently had to spent a week at the vet clinic. I decided this was the best place for them right as we didn’t have enough help and unfortunately couldn’t provide the best care for Yuki Chan. When I dropped them off, I asked to recheck their blood. Both came back positive for blood parasites. I had already been treating mum and all pups for blood parasites. Yuki Chan positive for E.canis and Chino positive for A.Platys. Treatment continues and they are both on a recovery diet. It made me so sad to leave them, but we were in survival mode. While in boarding at the vet clinic, Yuki Chan's wounds and rash on her bum worsened. The total cost of their little one week stay was around 12 000 baht!
Yuki Chan does not realise she is paralyzed and is happiest when she is moving around and playing like a normal dog. Unfortunately this leaves her legs all messed up from dragging on the ground. We are in the process of getting her some wheels and a drag bag, but we want to build a special place for her, for our other paralyzed girl Grace, and any other vulnerable dogs, to be able to play safely. We need to buy the materials needed to build this structure. In just 3 days we have some very handy volunteers arriving who are able to build this structure as well as more dog runs, so we would love to have the funds available so that they can get as much build as possible while they are here.
On top of everything, we have had numerous bad storms. Two of our shelters were destroyed and one bamboo hut lifted up and flipped. Our sanctuary grass cutter has broken down AGAIN! As we are having an unusual amount of rain right now, the grass is so long. Our property is 5 rai, which means a lot of grass to cut. With long grass comes snakes, dangerous snakes.
A lack of help means that I spend most of my time away from my own home. My own dog Bella has been unwell. Bella is the reason that Thai Street Paws exists. She has deteriorated drastically in just 3 weeks and I know I don’t have much time left with her. My best friend for over 16 years! Watching her like this absolutely breaks my heart.
Sorry for the rushed update. Most nights I crawl into bed too tired to type, so tonight was determined to update you all. I am so very thankful to every single person that believes in what I do and loves these dogs as much as I do. Thank you xx
I managed to get Pop and Dani's health checks done and on the flight to Bangkok. From Bangkok they flew to Life Animal Rescue in LA. They arrived safe and sound. Pop and Dani were 2 of 3 pups left orphaned after someone poisoned their mum. They still had their eyes closed when we were asked to help them. Bitter sweet to see them in LA with a bright future.
In the past week we have had quite a few storms, which is unusual as it isn't our wet season. Two of our shelters have been destroyed. One bamboo hut lifted up and flipped. No time to fix them, we are all so tired and just surviving.
Chicago bound ✈️
In all the craziness, I think I forgot to mention that Phoebe, Billy, Braxton and Vespa are flying to Chicago on 2nd June! We are so thankful to be working with our amazing friends Underdog Pet Rescue of Wisconsin, Inc., yet again! Thank you so much. I am still not sure how I will have everything organized in time, but I will make it happen. Right now we need to find as many dogs as possible their forever homes.
If you would like to be part of their journey to Chicago, your help would be so very much appreciated. We need to raise $500 USD. Thanks for your support xx
Thanks everyone for your kind words of encouragement and your amazing donations. I can't do this without your help. Much love xx
I am beside myself with worry. In just 1 day the foster home dogs have nobody to care for them. They can’t stay alone for 10 days until new volunteers arrive.
I am at breaking point just thinking about how I can be in 5 different places at once! Please help me find help for these dogs. Maybe you know someone in Thailand right now?
Not able to volunteer with us in person but want to help? We are desperate for volunteers and have some bodies willing and able to volunteer, but need help getting to us. If you have miles that you would be willing to donate to help get them to us, please let us know asap.
I can be contacted via my facebook page Thai Street Paws Rescue. Much love x
Time and time again we are let down by no show volunteers. Without volunteers or paid help, it is impossible to keep going. By the 22 May, we have just one volunteer. That means by the 20 May, I need to have found homes or alternative placements for 3 cats and 20 dogs.
I need to make it clear, this is not something I want to happen. It absolutely kills me to think I can't go on with this project and that maybe I need to give up on my dreams. I fight hard every day, but I can't do it alone.
On top of cover for the dogs, we also need to secure more funding. Funding that I know will be there every month. I could cope much better knowing we had both the physical help and the monthly funding, but right now I would be happy to have just one of these.
Ways you can help -
Never underestimate the power of social media, it continues to surprise me every single day. Please share. We are working so hard to find solutions to these problems, but constantly coming up against brick walls. Much love x
I know you are about 15k away from your goal. Is there a smaller amount we can work towards that would keep you all going? If you do have to find new homes for the dogs, how much would it be to get one to the US?
Stay strong, Tamara! Things WILL get better. You're doing so much good for this world and you deserve joy and happiness. Sending love from Texas.
Tamara, when will the Dodo article be available? What is the salary cost of a worker in $US?
