FLINT JUSTICE GARDENS #EATING

We all know that youth look up to football players as role models.
Watch what happens when athletes work with youth and start farming.
My name is Vincent Smith, I played running back at the University of Michigan. Now I plant gardens.
#EATING makes positive changes in our communities. Through garden programs youth learn to take care of their neighborhoods and make healthy decisions.
I just found out how hard hit Flint Michigan is because of the economy. For those of you that do not know, Flint has no grocery stores with in the city limits and also their drinking water has a really high amount of lead. There is a lot of violence and not a lot of rolemodels.
I am raising $109,901 which is the amount of people in the stadium during one football game so I can expand our project #EATING into Flint.
The money all goes to the garden project. It will fund things like a fence, signage, plants, above ground beds, permits, a stipend for a neighbor to look after the garden, water for the garden, youth trips, outreach to youth in the court system, and ofocourse I will be there to mentor and actually build the garden.
We already have one successful garden in Florida and it is our goal to put as many gardens in as many cities as we can. We want to give youth in the court system a better option then jail.
It makes a difference for young people to see athletes come to the neighborhoods and work. I know gardens can help things in Flint.
The youth listen to us athletes and we need to show them healthy options.
Here is the lot that we are looking to build the garden in.
Thank you for reading and next time you support your teams think about our community gardens.
