The True Challenges of ALS
Terry Nash has been diagnosed with what is commonly referred as Lou Gehrig's Disease or ALS. This disease has turned the simple, everyday tasks that we all take for granted into something that is now impossible for Terry to perform. ALS has begun to take over his body; both his hands and legs have now been severely compromised.
The ALS ice bucket challenge has brought much needed awareness and funds for research to this unthinkable disease. The Nash family is truly grateful for the attention the challenge has brought, as we have been personally affected.
Terry, his wife Laurie, their children (a sophomore and senior in high school) and our entire family are living every minute of every day with ALS. For those of you that know Terry, you know him to be extremely strong, independent and passionate. He has given 110% to everything in life, his job, playing golf, working in the yard, cooking a great meal with his family and even just enjoying “the camp." All of these are slowly being taken away due to this debilitating disease. We see how quickly this disease progresses and know how unfair it is for anyone to be dealt this card, as there is currently not a cure, nor an effective treatment.
In January of 2014, Terry had to resign from his position with Boston Market after 18 years of service. Disability insurance and social security cover a portion of his salary, but does not cover the added expenses of the necessary medical equipment or home health services that are needed. While we put faith in the hands of the ALS research, we are asking for your support in helping Terry and his family who are living with ALS.
