Last year, students at Templeton Secondary School created a robotics club to participate in FIRST Robotics Competitions (FRC #7190). FRC serves as an outlet for students to develop their creative skills as well as those in the STEM field beyond the borders of the classroom. At our first tournament, we achieved second place, winning a spot to compete at the World Championship in Houston. The event in Houston was an incredible experience that allowed us to connect and compete with other teams on the international stage. We made many fond memories last season and learned a number of valuable lessons that we are eager to put into practice this year.
We are an Eastside school with a focus on maximizing participation. To limit any financial hurdles for our team members, we rely on the generosity of our sponsors to help offset any direct costs to students and their families. Our team has grown to 33 students ranging from grades 8 to 12. This year our goal is to raise $15,000 to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate at the Regional in Victoria, BC. These funds will also assist in obtaining accommodations, transportation, key tools, uniforms, and robotic parts.
With the start of FRC’s build and design season quickly approaching in January, we are reaching out to our sponsors for assistance. While any contribution would be greatly appreciated, larger donations will receive more perks like promotions on our site, t-shirts and even the robot itself.
We are currently fundraising to pay for the team’s travel and accommodations in Victoria over the four-day FRC competition in March. The cost for the individual student will be approximately $350, for travel (bus rental, ferry and parking), accommodations ($50 per night, 4 students per room X 3 nights) and a food allowance ($5 + $10 + $20 = $35 per day X 4 days)
