Teishas Wheelchair Basketball Dream

$1,890 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 40 people in 15 months
At age 5, Teisha played her first game of basketball and fell in love with the game. She set herself goals to reach and worked hard to improve. By age 9, Teisha was playing representative basketball. She was awarded MVP in the winning grand final in under 12's.
Teisha continued to put her heart and soul into the sport and her efforts really showed when she made the state camp and was selected in Victorian Metro U/14 & U/15 sides in consecutive years.

In September 2016, Teisha's U/14.1 representative team headed to Newcastle to play in the U/14 National Championships. Teisha pushed through alot of foot pain all week, playing every game including the grand final, and celebrated with her team as the final siren announced them the number 1, U/14 girls team in Australia.
Sadly, that was to be the last game of able bodied basketball Teisha would play.

Scans revealed Teisha had complicated breaks in the navicular bone of both left and right feet requiring surgeries. At Christmas, surgeons explained that Teisha could not play basketball again without risking permanant dissability. We watched our daughters heart break that day.

Teisha refused to let injury stop her from chasing her dreams and in January 2017, she got back on the basketball courts only this time she was in a wheelchair. Teisha learnt the rules of wheelchair basketball and trained daily. Within a few weeks she was playing for Kilsyths domestic wheelchair league. Teisha was soon asked to train with Kilsyths Womans National Wheelchair Basketball League (WNWBL) and the Gliders team.

In April this year, just after her 14th birthday, Teisha took the court for round 1 of WNWBL and she loved it! The season has just finished and Teisha was awarded '2017 WNWBL Best New Talent'. Teisha also recieved an invite to begin training in Canberra in preparation to represent Australia at the 2019, U/25's World Championships.

To be able to continue to follow her dreams, Teisha needs a vital piece of equipment, a basketball wheelchair, as soon as possible. Teisha has been borrowing one which is very old and heavy and doesn't fit her body, leaving her with bruises each time she's in it. This essential custom wheelchair will allow Teisha to train and play at her fullest and will assist her in persuing her dream to make the Paralympics. We would be eternally grateful if you would help us make that dream a reality.

While injury sadly closed the door on Teisha's able bodied basketball dream, we hope that you will be able to help us hold the door open for her to fulfill a new dream.
