Techfugees: Coordinating and curating the international tech response to the needs of refugees

UPDATE: A massive THANK YOU to all those who supported this campaign.

This GoFundMe account is no longer active, but Techfugees still very much relies on your support! Your generosity allows us to continue advancing tech solutions that help displaced asylum seekers and refugees and the NGOs working on their behalf.

UPDATE: Techfugees Marks World Refugee Day on June 20 With Launch of Basefugees

INFO: Moved by the plight of refugees in Europe, a number of technology industry people led by Mike Butcher at TechCrunch, formed a small voluntary team to create the non-profit "Techfugees" initiative for refugees.

By way of its 25+ (and growing!) global chapters, Techfugees organises conferences, workshops, hackathons and meetups in around the world in an effort to generate tech solutions that can help refugees who are fleeing death and destruction in their homelands.

In just over a few months of operation, we have witnessed a huge desire amongst the tech community to get involved and help the enormous numbers of refugees around the world. Tim Cook (Apple), Google, Chobani founder Hamdi Ulukaya, Naguib Sawiris and many Tech VIPs are already actively involving their organizations in supporting the refugees.

Techfugees, a non-profit initiative, aims to  bring tech engineers, entrepreneurs and startups together with NGOs and other agencies in order to address the crisis in ways where the technology world can bring its considerable firepower.

The money raised here will go towards the creation of a Techfugees initative to help put the skills and products of the tech community into the hands of agencies and refugees themselves, and the creation of Techfugees to co-ordinate these activities.

Any surplus monies will be distributed to agencies working with refugees directly.

Thank you!

Mike, I only wish to aspire to the things you are doing & achieving. Telling you that you’re “appreciated” does not do your service justice. You’re the best & the difference you are making in the life of these Refugees is legendary!!
