Playgrounds for West Africa

Hello there, we are Team Playground!

We believe that every child has a right to play and enjoy their childhood to its full potential. Play is important for personal development, social skills and relationships with other children. That's why we build safe, exciting and educational playgrounds where children can flourish – LEARN , EXPLORE, ENJOY, CREATE, CHALLENGE THEMSELVES AND SHARE EXPERIENCE - playgrounds are a vital resorce for this development.

Our playgrounds are made out of donated, found and recycled materials where possible .


The idea of Team Playground was born in 2012 in Brufut (Gambia) during the construction of the Bege 1 Playground as part of the Brufut Education Project.  One year later, we build the playground Bege 2 in Ziguinchor (Senegal) and also a Mini-Playground for a nearby school. Since then we do our very best to maintain the playgrounds - each year termites have created maximum damage and devastation - and add new play features. We also always carry out a program of unofficial events such as beach trips and circus and photography workshops for the children. And together we celebrate International Woman Day with films, dancing and music.


We have already been working with the children of Brufut and Ziguinchor for 4 years now. We have a crew of very talented young kids who already have some building skills and a good knowledge of using the tools, we are aiming to train them more and in 5 years time there will be a "playground build crew" who will hopefully manage independently from us. But for now, they need your support:

We urgently need to fix the playground in Senegal. As you can see in the picture below, the termites have eaten one of the main poles, so the children can't play there now.


Also, we need to ship a playground that was donated by "touchwood" to Senegal and set it up. As you can see this one is made of metal so we won't have the termite problem again.


We will also add more donated material in the container, including stationary and educational material for schools, bikes and circus equipments.

Furthermore we are currently developing a play program for the children.  But wee need to raise money in order to pay for a playworker who will carry it out in Senegal.

Also, the "rocking boat" in Bege 1 is dead. We quickly have to build a new one!


As you can tell there are many big and small challenges that Team Playground is facing right now. And even more new, fantastic ideas for the future that we can't wait to get started with!

For all this, we need 5000 british pounds. If you think of how much we could do with it, this doesn't seem to much - especially if you compare to Europe, where all this would be much more expensive.

We name our playgrounds "Bege" which means "happiness". And this is exactly what your donation will bring to the children.  Please invest in their happiness to help them grow up to grateful, responsible and caring adults. They appreciate every single bit you're giving. The children are a tremendously energetic, enthusiastic, positive quick-to-learn and joyful force. At times there would be twenty kids hammering one nail. And you could be the one who gives them these tools.
