Support Lee American Hero Campaign

This campaign was set up for those that wanted to show their support to Retired Army Veteran Lee Hernandez.

Lee Hernandez, is an Iraq War Army Veteran who is under hospice care at his home in New Braunfels, Texas. He has strokes that have affected his vision and cognitive abilities. The 47-year-old’s body is deteriorating despite three brain surgeries. Doctors have not been able to pinpoint a cause for Lee’s illness and said there is nothing more they can do but make him comfortable. And this is not often the case, because Lee battles chronic pain.
When Lee's health took a  turn for the worse, his wife Tina, reached out to some fellow caregivers to find someone, maybe one of their husbands and a fellow vet, to contact Lee. The calls and texts really excited Lee and cheered him up. And this request spread like wildfire from there. At one point Lee had over 100,000 text messages on his cell phone! Of course Lee couldn't read them all and it crashed his cell phone. The fact that people contacted him and there were people who cared, has really made a dramatic effect on Lee's mood and spirit and overall health. Today he has had one of the best days in a long time and even danced!!!!! This is huge.
Although Lee is ill, he still has quite a bit of spirit! Tina is the best caregiver. She loves to get Lee out of the house. They go on day trips to the local zoo and to feed wild deer. Lee loves food when he's up to it, and they love to eat out or order in from their favorite restaurant. These are smaller ways this GOFundMe will be used to help them. We want the family to have the funds to order food or eat out when ever Lee can and not have to worry about budgeting for it.
Then are a few larger items that are looming. Lee got a motorized wheelchair. However, you have to have the right setup to transport it. Paperwork has been submitted with the VA, and they are waiting on that could be 15 months or more. Some of these funds can be used as a temporarily solution now so that Lee and Tina can go on excursions and to medical appoints.
There are also some household items and issues that Lee needs addressed.  Since Lee's health took a turn for the worse, funds need to be available to make changes as needed while they wait to the VA to help with modifications. A family friend was over putting up more rails in the bathroom for Lee now that he's weaker. There are many other little things that can be done to make homelife better for Lee and as his health condition changes.
Tina has  long wanted a service dog for Lee. He was denied one, due to his deterioted health. Tina would of course have to help Lee take care of the dog.  If feasable, a portion of the funds would be used for a service dog who is trained for blindness and seizure alerts. Lee would need a hypoallergenic dog like a Labradoodle, because Tina has allergies.
We mentioned that Lee likes to travel. There are a few places that Lee would like to visit on his bucket list. They usually make short day trips, but Lee loves to go places.
One place on his bucketlist is Yellowstone. If funds permit, a trip(s) Lee could have this experience and hopefully many more. There are alot of logistic required when traveling with a Wounded Warrior. Also we have to remeber Tina has been doing all of this single handedly, loading Lee and all his gear, at each stop, bless her heart she is amazing. She knows her Lee loves to leave the house go places. And she loves making memories and making the most of her time with Lee.
We don't like saying that Lee's time is short, but the Doctors have said that there is nothing else they can do for Lee and he is home on Hospice. Our goal is to fill this season of his life with all the joy that we can.  Lee and Tina really believe in the power of prayer. She loves that all of these people are praying for her Lee, and in her own words, "Look at Lee today, it's working!!!" Lee has has his best day in while. So that brings us to ways we can help. People want to help, and have offered to do so many good things for Lee and Tina. We all want to help them but at the same time respect their privacy and remember that Lee is ill. We will share a PO Box where people can mail items to Lee soon! Lee is a fighter!
