As you will see in our video, I took on the task of teaching lifeskills to a small group of young people. We were simply going to rehab an old trailer I found and use it to have bake sales and such. Simple enough; right?
Right. As it turns out, there was far more water (and pest) damage to the trailer than first met the eye. By the time I realized that, I was already committed to spending my summer teaching young people how to "fix" and build something they could be proud of.
We shared our video with a few people who helped us buy more building materials when we ran out of recycling options and personal funds. Those good people were so proud of what we had done that they shared the video with more people. People showed the video to their children who in turn wanted to come and help/learn.
I have welcomed all children who have asked to help and the list has grown considerably beyond what you will see in this first video.
Well... if you've ever worked with children and building materials, you know how easy it is to end up with a project that is "over budget" due to replacing pieces that were cut wrong, parts that were damaged or tools that "just stopped working." (Blank stare)
The thing is, I have the time, the skills, the space, the tools and the patience to teach. What we need is your support. Being a mother, I am a master of making something out of nothing, but every project requires some funding.
