Help Briana Beat Cancer!

Donation protected
In October 2017 when Briana Loeding was 7 years old she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a highly aggressive form of bone cancer.  She was not even two months into second grade.  Within a week of diagnosis, she had a 9-month treatment plan developed consisting of 10 weeks of intensive chemotherapy, surgery to remove the tumor in her leg, followed by an additional 20 weeks of post-surgical chemotherapy.

Briana’s treatment began in October and were all done inpatient at The University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Each stay ranged from 2-9 days for chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and high fevers resulting from her compromised immune system.  Due to her immunity she was also unable to attend school for the majority of the school year.  From October to June, Briana had 4 surgeries, and was admitted to the hospital 24 times for a total of 77 nights in the hospital.

Midway through treatment she had her right leg amputated through the knee in order to safely remove the tumor.  She continued to have clear scans until she completed treatment in mid-June.  On June 29th during her “end of treatment” scans it was discovered that the cancer had reestablished itself higher up in her amputated leg as well as metastasized to her lungs.  On July 19th Briana underwent another amputation surgery to remove an additional 8 and a quarter inches of cancerous bone from her right femur.

Briana and her family are doing everything possible to fight osteosarcoma and are currently working with the nation’s best pediatric oncology physician team at the Cleveland Clinic.  In August of 2018 Briana will undergo major thoracic surgery to remove the cancer nodules from both her lungs.  If the surgery is successful she will begin another chemotherapy regimen alongside additional therapies and clinical trials in an effort to remain cancer free.

Briana’s care is the highest priority to the family. Briana’s parents Brian and Lauren have taken extended time off work, and Lauren is currently unable to work due to Briana’s medical needs.  The expenses of medical bills, travel and lodging at the Cleveland Clinic, prosthetics, and household expenses on one income are a few of the hardships the family is experiencing as they try to focus on Briana’s care.

No child should have cancer.  Briana is a brave girl who has already gone through so much and missed so many childhood moments.  Please help provide support to the Loeding family as Briana continues to fight.
