Spirit of Texas REIGN

Thank you for visiting our page! Reign is a large co-ed international cheer team from the gym, Spirit of Texas, located in Coppell, Texas. The majority of this team is composed of college cheerleaders from various colleges who have collectively come together to form one exceptional group.

Most recently, they competed in the National Cheer Association competition that hosts the best of the best from all over the nation. Out of twelve other teams, Reign came in 3rd place and received an "At Large" bid to the Cheerleading Worlds Competition in Orlando, Florida on April 29 - May 1.

What makes this accomplishment so unique? While most competitive teams have been practicing together since last summer, Reign did not begin their regiment until December due to scheduling. So with just a little more than a dozen practices under their belt, Reign proved that their God-given talents, tremendous efforts, and perseverance could rise to the occasion. They are truly an electric and phenomenal team to watch!

Because the majority of these young men and women attend college, their funds are limited. The only way for them to attend this exceptional event - that would allow them to compete against the best from all over the world - is to raise the funds needed. They are hopeful that their tremendous efforts of overcoming adversity and injuries will not end now and that their dream of showing the world what they are truly capable of, will continue.

McKenzie Baskin, one of the three athletes that is still in High School, knows quite a bit about holding on to your dreams and overcoming adversity. McKenzie had always dreamed of participating on an All-Star competitive cheer team for many years but was unable due to her family's circumstance. Her daddy was diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, in 2010. For several years, McKenzie, along with her mom and brother, became his caregivers. The needs of her daddy due to the progression of the terminal disease did not allow time for traveling so she placed her dreams on hold not knowing if they would ever come to fruition.

Sadly, McKenzie's daddy passed away in 2015. But one of the bright spots of his day that helped motivate him throughout his excruciating journey was to watch videos of his daughter practicing her skills at her small local gym. He often used the goal of being around long enough to witness what God had intended for her in this sport after high school to help him get through the day.

With the memory of her daddy's encouragment and her passion for using what God has given her, she now has that opportunity. She is seeing that dream come alive with the help and support of Spirit of Texas Reign.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement towards this team! They are hopeful to raise enough funds by April to attend this incredible competition and live out their dreams!
