In June 2016, after being in remission for 4 years, my Hodgkin's Lymphoma relapsed. Over the course of the last 10 months I have undergone treatment using two different chemo drugs; neither of which have worked to kill the cancer.
In May I will begin a new journey - I have been accepted into a cancer trial at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. I will be their 8th patient out of a planned 31 participants; there isn't any data at this point showing how well or even if this protocol works. This is a Car-T Cell Therapy trial utilizing my own t-cells.
Because it is a trial there are certain guidelines and regulations UNC must follow. The biggest being check ups and appointments at regimented times following infusion. This means I will be spending around 3 months in NC while I go through the trial's progression. Unfortunately the trial does not offer any financial assistance or per diem. While I am fortunate that my health insurance company has agreed to partner with UNC for this treatment all other expenses will fall on my shoulders. Housing, travel, food, monthly bills, etc. That is the purpose of this GoFundMe account and I would appreciate any help sent my way!
