Teaching Life One Arrow at a Time

Donation protected
My school is a 5th year charter school in an urban area. My students, from kindergarten through 8th grade, are exceptional in so many ways. It's a small school of approximately 200 students. I learn as much from them as I try to teach them. I view every child as important, special, and unique. Noone gets missed or overlooked. It’s a promise my school has made to ourselves and our school community because our children are that important. Every day they strive to accomplish new successes in academics and physical education activities.

My middle school students, grades 5-8, had an opportunity to participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program this past year and they did exceptional. Most of my students have never seen a bow and arrow before, let alone shoot one and yet they were taught the proper use and safe handling of the equipment. They exceeded every expectation I had for them.

This past year I was able to borrow equipment to give them this chance, but I am looking to get a set of equipment of our own so that I can continue to give them an opportunity year after year. If we have our own set of equipment at our school I can expand the program to incorporate teachers, parents, and maybe someday, the school community. According to The National Archery in the Schools Program “Educators are looking for ways to improve student motivation, attention, behavior, attendance, and focus. Teachers strive to achieve state and national educational standards regarding development of micro and macro motor ability and listening and observation skills.”

If I can fund the archery program in our school, I believe that each arrow that a student loads and shoots would teach them an important lesson.

As they load arrows onto their bows, they learn how to have the discipline to load it correctly. As they pull the arrow back, their using concentration and focus along with fine motor skills. As they release the arrow they are seeing the results of their hard work and accomplishments. This new program in our school will also open doors for my students they may not ever otherwise be able to walk through. Please help me help them, and make a difference in their lives.

Here is a list of items the National Archery in the Schools Program requires:

NASP Genesis Bow - $113.00 each need 10
NASP Easton Aluminum Arrows - $186.00 need 2
NASP Target by Reinhart - $203.00 need 5
NASP Arrow Curtain by BCY - $316.00 need 1
NASP Repair Kit by Lancaster
Archery Supply - $101.00 need 1
NASP Archery Bowhanger - $193.00 need 1

I am looking to buy the equipment by this upcoming October 2017 so that I can have the program up and running by January 2018. It would mean so much to me and my school if you could help us raise the money needed for this program. It would give my students and future students the oppurtunity of a lifetime.
