FREE STREET KITCHEN NEPAL

Thousands are out in the open after the quake with little shelter and food, and no belongings. They need immediate, practical, help !

I've been on 15 trekking visits to Nepal and now this happnens! I want to give something back.

I am flying to Nepal Monday, 4th May. I will set up a FREE Street KITCHEN in Kathmandu for immediate relief to some of those homeless sleeping in the open. I have a small team of local people who will help. I need funds to hire local cooks, and to pay for the kitchen stall, equipment, on-going food ingredients and crucially FREE fresh WATER.

After the first one is set up, we shall start more, as funds allow. We are hoping to establish 5 separate kitchens around Kathmandu as an initial target.

Please donate! Our aim is to have one kitchen up and running by next week!

Flo has completed her final tarpaulin distribution. With the help of Ashim (one of the Free Nepal Kitchen staff) she visited Dahding by bus, a two day return journey which included having to ride on the roof for 10 hours! I want to make public here the incredible work she has done in Nepal for us over these past many weeks. As a volunteer she has both criss-crossed Nepal handing out supplies, and been at the centre of the kitchen projects in Kathmandu. I cannot thank her enough as she prepares to continue her journey helping and living with poor families, next in South Africa. Please come back to help us again Flo in the autumn in Nepal but for now thank you from everyone for your incredible kindness and support.

More blankets and tarpaulin being distributed this week by Flo, LP and their small teams of helpers. Huge thanks to them for keeping Free Nepal Kitchen going during the onset of the monsoon

This last week in Nepal Flo has been up in the hills east of Pokhara distributing almost all of our remaining tarpaulins and blankets. A few bundles remain in storage in Kathmandu but even those in the next few days will leave for villages with LP. Then we shall be concentrating on the next phase of our assistance to victims of the earthquakes, which I will come back to at another time.
Thank you all once again for your amazing support and, please, it's not over yet, there is still much to do, and once the autumn comes more funds will be needed.
With best wishes to everyone who has supported Free Nepal Kitchen !

These last few days before I return to the UK have been spent outside Kathmandu distributing tarpaulins and sleeping mats. In addition, bundles have gone separately to other villages via staff members and those who have come to us with special appeals.
Most remaining funds will be spent in this way now that our "super" kitchen has closed after 9 days. We anticipate the monsoon starting within a week, so hopefully all the tarp, blankets and mats we have accumulated in our store will go out before then.
Thank you all again for making this possible and please continue to donate so we can keep distributing stores to the most needy during the monsoon.

Saying goodbye to Balaju
