Laguna St. Fire Fund for 7 Families

Donation protected
Please help us raise money for the families who lost their homes in the recent fire at Taxco Condominiums in Concord, CA.  Join the residents of the Taxco Homeowner’s Association to ensure our neighbors have roofs over their heads and the basic necessities required to get back on their feet.

UPDATE 1/20/17:
Thank you, thank, thank you for all of your help and support of these families!  In addition to supporting this GoFundMe, here's how you can help:

1) Housing Leads
1 family is still staying in a motel and needs permanent housing! Know of a place for rent or possible temporary housing? Please email [email redacted] or leave a voicemail at [phone redacted] with housing leads.

2) Gift Cards
Gift cards to Target, Safeway, Walgreens, etc. allow families to get exactly what they need such as food, toiletries & household items. Please mail gift cards to: Aspire Pilates Center, 1485 Civic Ct. #1460, Concord, CA 94520

3) Household items & Furniture Drive Coming Soon
Stay tuned for another donations drive - for household items this time.  As families are getting solid housing over their heads, we'll be getting a list of needs soon.

Note: Clothing is no longer being collected, as everyone is doing well with the generously donated clothing - thanks!

The Fire
On Monday, December 19th in the early afternoon, a fire destroyed an 8-unit building in our condo complex, leaving eight families (including children) instantly homeless the week before Christmas. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but does not appear to be intentional.

We count our blessings that there were only minor injuries. However, as members of the Taxco community, we feel great sympathy for our neighbors whose homes were damaged and destroyed. And while of course the survivors are incredibly thankful no one died, the trauma they experienced has still caused many tears, shock, and confusion about what to do next. Witnessing your child or grandmother being carried by ladder from a flaming building (by brave fire fighters from Concord, Pleasant Hill & Pittsburg), while neighbors jump from their balconies to escape, is surely a memory difficult to shake.

On the day of the fire, the Red Cross mobilized in the clubhouse, giving the now homeless residents blankets and a couple days cash for a hotel. Families left with the clothes on their backs.

Some folks have nowhere to go, and some are dealing with unsympathetic landlords. Please join us in supporting our neighbors to ensure they have a safe place to stay—especially with the holidays coming up!!! Updates will be given soon, but we’re told that no one will be allowed to move back into the building for many months.

Where the money will go
All funds raised will go directly to the victims of the fire, towards their housing and other necessities. At this time, we are raising funds for 7 of the 8 families (it has been determined that 1 family is not in need of assistance). Information is still being gathered to identify specific needs. We’ll provide updates here as the money is disbursed so you’ll know exactly how it’s helping!

Who We Are
We are Taxco owners and residents who feel sick for our neighbors who lost all their possessions and have nowhere to go.

Thank you to Taxco HOA Board President, Tonya Amos, for her tireless efforts since Monday, Dec 19th in getting help to those who need it. Additional thanks go to the other board members and our management company, Community Association Management, for all their support during this emergency situation.

On Monday night, Tonya asked Taxco resident Dawn VH to help with setting up a GoFundMe campaign. We got it up and running quickly and sincerely hope it can raise enough funds to get all the families out of crisis mode.
