Help Tatyana Triumph over Tragedy
Many of you remember the tragic story in New Albany, IN when an act of violence took the lives of 3 innocent children. Trinity, Tai'zah, Tatyana, and Tyrese were soundly sleeping when a flare gun was shot into the home setting it ablaze. Sadly, Trinity, Tai'zah, and Tyrese did not make it. I began to follow the story and watched their grandmother, Marie Hughes, pour her heart out on the news about her grandbabies. I watched as the community came together as one to show support for this broken-hearted family. That August, I attended Tatyana's Birthday party and that is where a friendship was built between Marie and I. Her grace and how she carried herself touched me and I felt helpless as a single individual but the way the city pulled together was very hopeful.
I speak with Marie regularly and get updates as to how the family is doing. I now see that as time has passed, the real struggle, the grief, the hardships, and the pain has set in. Tatyana is turning the tender age of 8 years old this month. She is going through many social obstacles such as not wanting to go to school because of the burns on her face and feeling like the other kids are staring at them. This precious girl has seen and gone through more than most people will go through in a lifetime.
Tatyana's mother, decided it would be better to relocate to an area of the country with a more dry heat with hopes that it would be easier on her skin and for her lungs. They needed a fresh start and a chance to heal. A year later, their home was burglarized and they decided to move back, leaving most of their belongings behind. Since they have been back, they have been staying with family members. Tatyana needs stability. Her and her mother have been helping each other the best they can to survive and be there for each other emotionally. They lost so much.....they lost everything all at once. Tatyana still has a great deal of pain due to the raised burns on various parts of her body as well as nerve damage. . She still has a long journey ahead of her yet remains in good spirits.
While working one day, Marie was talking to one of her friends on her route about Tatyana. It just so happened that the person she talked to knew a plastic surgeon here in Louisville who offered to do plastic surgery at no charge. When I heard of this, I thought to myself how wonderful it is to live in a society that still has compassion, especially to a young child.
The very few belongings that they were able to bring with them are in a storage facility and the items are scheduled to go up for auction on August 17th. Because their income is less than $500, they will lose what little they have left.
Tatyana watched her siblings die right in front of her. She also was in a coma. She has had so much therapy and surgeries and it amazes me how strong she is and never loses faith.
I have set up this fund especially for this angel. For toys, clothes, shoes, a place to live, basic living essentials, the auction, and mostly for things to help her live her childhood out doing things she enjoys......as a little princess. If you are able to help in any way at all, it will be appreciated more than you know. If you prefer to donate any of the items listed, I can meet you or you can use this page for any monetary donations. If anything, please help just by sharing. THANK YOU!!!!!
