Tara Carlson’s Kidney Transplant

We have a donor!!!

Tara has been battling health issues her entire life. She was diagnosed with kidney failure at the age of 9. She underwent many years of treatments and dialysis and received her first kidney transplant from a deceased donor in 2010 while a senior in high school.

Tara went on to graduate from college in 2014.  She received two degrees and started her dream job in Advertising. She was healthy and happy!

In March 2018, Tara experienced a massive rejection of the previously transplanted kidney. This has put her into total renal failure. She is currently on dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours each day. She is on the UNOS waiting list for another kidney transplant. Tara has been hospitalized 8 out of the last 12 weeks for complications of this disease.

Her sister , Casey,  is being tested now to donate a kidney to Tara. There are also expenses associated with the donation process. Both girls will be out of work for multiple weeks following transplant. Tara will be unable to resume work until at least 12 weeks after her transplant. Tara has already been out of work for the past 5 weeks. Casey will be out about 4-6 weeks following transplant.

Our family hates to ask for assistance of any type, but we feel we are out of options. The bills are increasing.

All money donated will help with current and future medical expenses for Tara including copays/deductibles, medications, transportation to and from the clinic/hospital and any costs associated with the kidney donation testing / procedure. Tara’s insurance will cover some of the cost of the donor testing but not 100%. Any funds over and above what the girls need will be donated after Tara’s transplant to Rady  Children’s Hospital San Diego Dialysis Center.
