Tango Obsession
Brought To You
By CAMARADA

The obsession began around 20 years ago when I found and performed Astor Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango for flute and guitar.  The connection was immediate and has truly been an passion for me as well as for my fellow musicians who perform with my chamber music ensemble CAMARADA.  Tango seemed to light a fire of delight for our audience members as well.  See camarada.org for more history and details.

CAMARADA has an amazing opportunity to studio record the tango repertoire for our upcoming concert (February 19, 2018) which features world-renowned bandoneonist Raul Jaurena. The bandoneon is a type of concertina particularly popular in Argentina, Uruguay, and Lithuania. It is an essential instrument in most tango ensembles from the traditional orquesta típica of the 1910s onwards.  Performing with Raul and the bandoneon in particular is a dream come true!

RAUL JAURENA, BANDONEON

“Is the bandoneon a living creature?  It may seem so…In the hands of a skilled musician it starts to grumble and whine, to breathe and to sign its heart out.  Few people can play it like Raul Jaurena – he literally embraces it and elicits from it the whole range of emotions that this unique instrument is able to evoke.”

The Tango Obsession recording will include favorites such as Oblivion, Libertango, Jalousie & La Cumparsita, plus many traditional tangos arranged by Raul.  The instruments and musicians featured in this recording are:
Raul Jaurena, bandoneon
Beth Ross Buckley, flute
David Buckley, violin
Dana Burnett, piano
Jeff Pekarek, bass

Raul will be joining Camarada in San Diego on Valentine’s Day to begin rehearsing before our weekend concerts and recording sessions.  Once we have our recording ready – we will promote the CD/digital recording with performances in New York & San Francisco.  This recording collaboration with Camarada & Raul will serve our San Diego audience and lovers of tango worldwide!  Raul’s global presence will bring recognition to the San Diego musical community.

Our goal is to raise $12,500 or more to fund this project by February 14th.

DETAILS:
$5,000 - fourteen musical arrangements & recording fee for Raul Jaurena
$2,400 - three days of recording & sound mixing
$1,600 - recording fees for flute, violin, piano, bass
$3,500 - CD production & graphic design

This recording is a representation of Tango music being alive and well today.  Camarada is constantly seeking global music so that the nuance of how we reach our audience is always heightened and resonating with them.

Camarada strives to go outside the box and to express, manifest and perform the greatest music from past and present for future appreciation and enjoyment.

Thank you for your interest and support!
