Tame the Kraken is an approved  501 (c)(3) !

My name is Tim Crockett and I’m going to row a 20ft boat, 'The Kraken', across the Atlantic ocean. I need your help to get to the starting line. Every donation large or small helps.
I'm doing this for very good reason: as a holder of both American and British passports, and being a Special-Forces veteran, I am painfully aware that many US and UK soldiers are struggling with depression, anxiety, alienation and thoughts of suicide brought on by PTSD and the effects of traumatic brain injuries. The journey I face is my way to raise awareness, educate and to start connecting those who need help with those that are in a position to provide assistance.

My plan is to take part in the 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a race of more than 3,000 nautical miles from the Canary Islands to Antigua across the Atlantic Ocean. Considered by some to be one of the toughest challenges on earth. To put it into perspective, more people have scaled Everest or have journeyed into space than have rowed across the Atlantic. Even fewer have rowed it solo.

While I’ll be alone in the Atlantic, I need your help to get me there and by doing so you will be helping many others tame their own personal 'Kraken'.

Tame the Kraken is the first phase of a larger group initiative to bring awareness and support for those suffering with mental health issues. For more information please visit tamethekraken.org or theunseenwounds.org

Good Morning TTK Supporters,
It's been a while since I last posted an update here but there's good reason for that as we have been incredibly busy with a trip to the UK to finally take the boat out on its maiden voyage and then rack up almost 100 hours worth of training, which was incredible helped a great deal by some very favorable UK weather.

Some of you UK supporters may have seen the Kraken doing the rounds at a few local events, now newly wrapped with sponsor logos and 'tentacles'. Don't forget to snap a picture and post it on social media with the #tamethekraken hashtag.

This past week has been another rollercoaster of a week with changing plans and logistical stress but then we rolled on into Friday picking up not 1 or 2 but 4 new sponsors. The support we have gotten so far has been incredible and from some very unexpected channels, so thank you!!

With that said we still have a little ways to go as we enter into the last 116 days until the start of the race. We are still looking for funds to ship the boat to the start and some satellite communication gear, so if you know of anyone please send them to us. We have a few more safety items to get to for the boat in order to pass the mandatory inspection and then last but not least FOOD!! As a solo rower I will need to have a minimum of 90 days worth of food onboard, that's a minimum of 607,500 kcal which is about 6,000 bananas.

In the coming weeks we'll be looking at fun ways to raise some money to 'Feed Tim for a Day' ($40 x 90) so if you want to suggest something please let us know.

On a more serious note, starting 1st September we'll turn our attention to other fundraising events and activities and will have set up some direct funding links to the various charities TTK is supporting. For those of you out on the West Coast next week we'll be holding a fundraiser at the Kraken Bar & Grill in Cardiff, CA just North of San Diego. Head on out there and get yourself a special commemorative beer glass, t-shirt and enjoy the live music and atmosphere. If all goes well we hope to host a similar event here in Atlanta so watch this space.

TTK Out.

Good Evening TTK Supporters,

I just wanted to say thank you to all of the support and donations we have received to date it's truly been great but we still have a long way to go so I thought I'd mention some other ways friends and family can help.

Direct Donations of money are always welcome and very much appreciated and let’s not forget; tax deductible! Please click the button at the right of the page or visit our Facebook page @RowtheAtlanticandTametheKraken

Another great way to raise awareness within your own business and motivate staff, suppliers or clients is to hold an event supporting a good cause such as Tame the Kraken (TTK). You can either come along to one of our TTK pre-arranged events or if you already have an event that you run or cover, why not include a charity element?

Whether it is a small local event or a nationwide opportunity; teaming up with us will provide excellent PR opportunities for your business. We can also support you in various ways including publicizing your event on our website and through our social media platforms and partners.

The main thing is to have fun with the giving and know that it is having a positive impact.

If you have any questions or request for more information about the row please email us at tamethekraken@gmail.com or message us on FB.

Thx.
