Taking Action Breaking Silence
T.A.B.S.
I would like to begin by thanking each and every one of you that have continued to support this campaign. It means the world to me and everyone working with me. I am re-writing this "story" or mission statement because so much has changed since starting this campaign three months ago. Due to several practical, professional, and personal obstacles I have yet to make my move to the East Coast. I will be completely honest with everyone, as I believe that is always the best policy; I have had multiple life-changing events take place over the summer, such as my father passing into the clearing at the end of the path and a long-awaited heartfelt reunion with several of my closest family members after years of being apart, just to name two of them. These events have made it quite difficult to take that leap into the unknown and leave my home and my family to embark on this journey without any sort of plan or idea as to when I might return. Due to these sudden and untimely events, I was forced to cancel the flight I had booked and paid for. These projects require me to be immersed in my work and give them my full attention. That is the only way each of them will meet their full potential.
I'll let you know right here and now that I am not one to rush things. I will choose quality over quantity any time I have that option. It may take me a little longer than someone else, but you will be getting my best work. I also make it a habit to think things through thoroughly before I make a decision, speak, or write. In my experience, this helps to ensure that I mean what I say and I say what I mean. That's not to say I don't make mistakes or have unexpected detours and road bumps. We all do. I assure you all that in absolutely no way whatsoever have I given up my dreams to provide a pathway to healing for any and all that need it,  nor my vow to serve the Light and protect the innocent. I am committed for life. I can honestly and literally promise everyone that I will never turn my back on this mission. Not as long as I continue to draw breath.
Again, I am human and have all the same anxieties and fears as anyone else, and the thought of leaving my home and family (especially after losing my father so suddenly) without any idea if or when I will see them again terrifies me. This fear has caused me to be very thorough in making sure I've tied any and all loose ends up before I leave and that I make sure my children have things set into place that will ensure their safety and healthy growth. Just in case, and for whatever reason I wasn't able to return to them. It may sound pointless or far-fetched to some, this fear of not returning home, but the truth of the matter is, no one knows when it's their time to go (as I was reminded by my father's death,) and the reality that I am in fact taking on a very powerful and dangerous evil, an evil that has plagued our children and our future for time out of mind and one that has succeeded in creating loopholes in the laws that strip the child victims of their rights and allows the child molesters, child rapist, and child murderers to walk free or receive very little punishment. The fact that the man who sexually abused me from the ages of six until one month before my twelfth birthday was only sentenced THREE YEARS for a crime that took him nearly SIX YEARS to commit is unfathomable and unacceptable. I digress.
I am within days of being ready to move now. Again I will be completely honest in telling you I am having a nightmare of a time in getting the airline that I originally used to fly out to Virginia and film 'The Babysitter', that due to transportation issues last year(the bus I took to the airport was quite late)I was unable to make, to simply allow me to use one of the two canceled flights towards a new reservation, but that is an entirely different and huge ball of wax of which I will spare you the details.
Next, I would like to give everyone an update on ‘The Babysitter.’ Despite the most diligent and professional efforts, primarily of director Connar Frazier, we have yet to be accepted into a single film festival. Frazier and I have noticed somewhat of a theme in various letters of denial we have received. This theme has given us cause to re-evaluate the film as best we can from an objective and unbiased perspective. After doing so, we have decided to take the film back to the editing board. I would like to make it clear that this is in no way is us feeling the need to appease the ‘powers that be’ and allowing them to influence and compromise our creative vision due to their dislike or inability to understand our film, as I personally feel we created a beautiful film that is very unique and expressive.
The original cut of the film is incredibly personal and brutally honest and was produced in a way that has yet be done, to our knowledge, within the film industry. There was a good deal of pressure coming from outside entities and situations that were unavoidable which caused us to rush ourselves and because of the very limited resources and time allowance, we weren't able to shoot certain scenes we had originally envisioned. With the lack of acceptance into film festivals, we have realized that this is a perfect opportunity to shoot those scenes and truly produce the film we had wanted to from its conception. We hope to see the film premiere sometime in the spring of 2019.
In the last three months, I have also co-created a new series on YouTube with my good friends Bobby Wolfe Jr. and Scott Kirk, entitled ‘Monster Hunters.’ This is an idea I have had and have wanted to develop for a very long time now. The concept came to me when I was thinking about how badly I wanted to share the discoveries that have led me to a place of healing with anyone who was still lost within the darkness of their pain and to provide a safe place for victims and survivors to break their silence and tell their stories. Thus beginning their journey towards healing.
Another project I have stored in the recesses of my mind and heart for more than twenty years is built on the need to shed light on these darkest of crimes, create a raised awareness of this atrocity, but to do so in such a manner that is full of love, light, and hope rather than than the dark and monstrous devastation that it is for so many .
I have realized that this topic is so unimaginable and so dark for most that they cannot talk nor hear about it without wanting to run the other way and never speak of it again.
This led me to the realization that one way of getting people to be more receptive and willing to address this issue would be to make it something enjoyable. Now please don't mistake what I mean by reading to much into that word. I am not saying that we need to make CSA enjoyable, rather we need to approach it and present it with a lighter heart. There have been countless benefit concerts to aide everything from farmers to hurricane victims, but never a benefit concert to aid children of abuse.
To discuss such a heinous crime and bring attention to a subject that so many dismiss by presenting it in an enjoyable way. I am very pleased to inform you all that this dream of mine is becoming a reality. The members of my team and I have begun the process of putting the first of what we hope will be an annual event. An all-day concert featuring music, artwork, comedy, and guest speakers that are all there because they want to be actively involved in finding a solution and want work towards preventing child abuse.
The proceeds would be given to NPO's throughout the world working to strengthen laws, provide clinics, hotlines, and information to help child victims and their families, as well as into a fund account that would cover the costs of therapy for victims and survivors that cannot afford it and for legal representation for families that are prosecuting a pedophile but haven't the means to cover the many fees involved to do so.
I remember when at 12 years old my family was in the trenches of a legal battle with Francis Ford Coppola, who had assisted Victor Salva with his legal fees since the day he was arrested and also was suing me and my family for $5,000,000.00, the tremendous strain it put on our lower-middle-class blue-collar family. As if the stress and pain and anger of discovering this adult had been sexually abusing your child wasn't enough to handle, we now had the unfathomable stress of Coppola's lawsuit as well the legal and lawyer fees. In the end, Coppola's financial aide bought Salva a slap on the wrist when he was offered a plea bargain that dropped the 6 most severe charges of the original 11 counts Salva was charged with. Those 6 dropped charges were also the ones for the abuse that took place during the production of 'ClownHouse'. Our projected date of 'Kids-Aide', if all goes fairly smoothly, will take place in the summer of 2019.
So please consider contributing to this just cause and righteous mission. Money donations are of course what will literally make these projects happen and meet their potential and possibly go far beyond my vision. However, we are in need of many other things in order to turn these dreams and ideas into realities such as someone to print the tickets, security for the concert, a venue that can accommodate such an event, corporate sponsorships, and much much more. On behalf of the victims, survivors, and children everywhere I thank you for your time and participation and look forward to a world that is once more safe for our children. To a future that is bright and full of healthy growth. Sincerely and humbly yours,
-Nathan Forrest Winters-
