My name is Kiara. I am a sophomore in college. Some of you may have seen my recent tweets that went viral of a conversation I had with my mom about my stance on the #TakeTheKnee campaign. I am a proud supporter of Colin Kaepernick and the many other people that are protesting against racism, inequality, and police brutality.
Unfortunately, this has caused a lot of tension between my family members and I. I am biracial (black, white, and Puerto Rican). My mom and step dad, that I lived with growing up are both white, and they disagree with my stance on the protest.
Becaue they disagree with me and are upset about me sharing my story publicly in order to raise awareness, they have decided to cut me off. This includes my phone and help with college finances.
The school I attend is a private, Christian university that costs about $34,000 a year. I barely receive any financial aid because of the amount of money my parents make, so most of my tuition comes out of pocket. The money that is donated will be going toward my college tuition, textbooks and any other college expenses I may have.
I have recieved so much love and support from everyone on social media and I can't thank you guys enough for being my support system during this time. Yall are amazing! A lot of people have suggested that I make this gofundme account, so I decided I would try it. Anything helps and I appreciate yall more than you could ever know.
