'Tahemaa Transformed'

£245 of £25,000 goal

Raised by 19 people in 3 months
The Bournemouth Natural Science Society (BNSS) is raising money for the preservation and refurbished display of their Egyptology collections and icon, the Lady of the House, Tahemaa, a 25th Dynasty Egyptian mummy.

Tahemaa was donated to the BNSS in the 1920’s but spent many decades hidden away from public view. Only in recent years has she returned to display. However, due to her age and condition she is actively deteriorating and swift action is needed to save her. Her surface is cracking and flaking due to an unstable environment, while exposure to UV light risks fading the pigment on her beautiful painted surface. In addition, there are many rare ancient Egyptian artefacts in the collection that need varying degrees of conservation and analysis, as well as more suitable display facilities.

The project Tahemaa Transformed aims to address all these issues. It will give Tahemaa specialist conservation treatment and a new custom-made display case to preserve her longevity. It will also upgrade the display and information facilities in the Egyptology room, making the collection more visually dynamic and accessible to visitors.

The Egyptology collection at the BNSS is one of the greatest on the south coast and with your support we can truly put it on the map!

We thank you for your kind donations towards the preservation of Tahemaa and these incredible collections.

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
