The night of Saturday, June 16 started with Bridgefest fireworks celebrating the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, but throughout the night our Keweenaw peninsula was hammered with rain. Many community members woke up to washed out streets, damaged homes, and over 60 sinkholes in the area. Our community will come back from this natural disaster stronger, but we need some help along the way.

This page is to raise money for local families and local businesses displaced/affected by this flooding in Houghton, Hancock, Chassell, Ripley, Tamarack City, Lake Linden, Dollar Bay, and other areas of the Keweenaw. Some families have lost their homes and others are facing incredibly high repair costs. Please consider donating if you have ever visited our beautiful area or know anyone who makes their home here in the Keweenaw.

Read the news story.

Funds will be donated to local relief efforts through the Portage Health Foundation fund that aims to help local families and local small businesses who lack insurance and need repairs to their foundations, basements, driveways, etc. More details about the PHF fund here:  http://www.phfgive.org/docs/flood_relief_fund.pdf

Once donations have slowed, I will deactivate the campaign, withdraw the money and give it to PHF.

If you have been affected, please share any photos, videos, or personal testimony in the comments section or contact the page owner.

It is at this time that we are going withdraw the GoFundMe funds and deposit them in the MTEFCU account. We will write a check to the Portage Health Foundation as soon as possible and update with a photo. Thanks everyone again for your generosity! Copper Country Strong!
