(6/10/19) Sig had surgery as we reported. He is still recovering. The radius is healing and we are hoping the shattered ankle will as well. His tail wags but doesnt lift well. That will be addressed later. We will keep you posted. Thank you all! (5/24/19) The waiting game... we are waiting to see if the surgery worked. He is unable to walk on it but occasionally does put weight on it. He is still in his kennel most of the time. We just wait... and pray. Thank you all for your help! Without you this would have not been.possible. Please keep praying... (5/12/19) Sunday...Sig is recovery slowly ... looking at one more surgery still. Please keep.praying for this good boy and my son. Please keep sharing and, if you can, please give to his surgical bills. Thank you! (5/10/2019) Sig came.home tonight. He is heavily sedated but home. Now we wait to see if the nerves are damaged and if the pins hold. Please keep praying. UPDATE (5/9/19) pm... Sig has had the surgery for his leg. The pins are in. However, the anethesia wore off before his broken tail could be amputated. So he will.have another surgery later for that painful tail. It is so painful he has a hard time deficating. Please pray ...and keep sharing. We aren't done yet. Thank you all so much! Please keep Sig and my son in prayer. And if you can give a little... thank you! (5/9/19) SIG IS IN SURGERY NOW! We are stepping out in faith! This dog deserves the chance! ... we will put all we have now down. The rest we hope we can raise or we will pay off if allowed in installments. Thank you all! Please keep sharing and giving. (5/8/19) An article about Sig came out ... https://www.themorningsun.com/news/local/hit-and-run-accident-could-leave-veteran-without-his-ptsd/article_bc9a4098-7033-11e9-b2df-6b21fda65b3d.html ...we are still praying he overcomes all this. He is a fighter and twice now we thought he was done just to see him fight to live. And through all this his concern for my son touches me greatly. He is trained to sense my son's anxiety rising and focus his attention ... he has continued to lick my son's face to reassure him even when his own pain is so great. Sig is what Service dogs are all about. Veterans with PTSD need aomeone who can help them refocus, help them return to the present . Sig never judges or turns away from my son. No matter how bad things get. He keeps working to call my son here and now. A note: if Sig doesn't make it and we don't use all the money given...itnwont be wasted. All extra funds will be given to organizations that help connect service dogs to veterans. (5/7/19) We had a scare yesterday. Sig screamed in pain when being brought in from going potty... peed himself and could not move is back legs. For nearly all night he lay there unable to move. Turns out the broken tail shot seeding pain through him and he refused to try to.move. Finally he did move and now we have to look at the tail being amputated sooner than originally expected. This is a very emotional ride, especially for my son, who has PTSD. PLEASE keep prayers and thoughts of Sig and my son coming. And if you can help defer costs by giving a little , thank you. (5/6/19): Sig is still in a lot of pain. The orthopedic surgical vet said we have to make a decision soon regarding his leg. We,as a family, aren't able to swing $5000 to $7000 ...we have, thanks to your geneosity, part of the money necessary. We are trying to buy time ... Please share and/or give to support this Service Dog. Thank you! (5/5/2019) Sig finally peed! That might sound odd but very important .. means his body is working! We have a little more time because his body has been traumatized. He is in a lot of pain still and actually, as you can imagine, feels worse due to bruising all over his body. He is barely eating or drinking but is trying. He is a trooper! A huge thank you for all who have given so he could get through the emergency. He still desperately needs the surgery at Michigan State University (unless someone knows a vet who does that surgery elsewhere) with plates and screws to save the use of his leg. And we need prayers for his tail. If in the next couple of days he doesn't wag it, it will need to be amputated. It isbtraumatized so using the bathroom is not.haopening right now due to pain mostly. Thank you all...keep sharing and please consider financially giving. ORIGINAL POSTING: My son's service dog, Sig (a 5 year old chocolate lab) was struck by a truck last night. He now definitely needs surgery at Michigan State University. A specialist will be needed due to the damage done to the shattered radius. While the local vet has him in a temporary cast, the damage need a plates and screws to assure the use of it.  His right radius is shattered, his tailbone is broken and his head is torn up BUT he has NO internal injuries. Thank God! Surgery is to put the fragments back together and cast the leg. This is No ordinary dog. He is my son's lifeline. He calms my son when PTSD attacks. He has an amazing gift and is trained to aide him when he can't help himself. Sig is his therapist and best friend. Our whole family loves this dog. My son is a veteran with PTSD. His service dog is his lifeline!  Please help!
