Help the homeless

$11,485 of $10,000 goal

My Name is Jack Munley, I am a Lieutenant with the EVMS Police Department. Most mornings when I work I see many homeless people struggling to get by. I bring them food, clothing and suplies when I can but its simply not enough. This morning I spoke with two homeless men who both served in our great Military, one a Marine, and one in the Navy. The Marine asked me if I could get him gloves. Its so cold outside and he had socks to cover his hands. The Marine showed me where his left index finger was lost while serving.  The man who served the navy asked me if I could find him boots.  I wish I had the means to help without asking however I don't so im asking my friends to help. What ever money raised will go directly to help these men and women in thier difficult time. Thank you for your consideration.

I know its been a while since I posted but I just wanted to give everyone an update. This morning it's very cold in Hampton Roads. A friend of mine put together ten care packages in honor of her late brother. The care packages were so well received and much needed to the men and women on the street. Along with the care packages I passed out sandwiches, fruit and packaged salads. A total of ten care packages were handed out and I was able to feed around 17 people. I could not do this without your support. Thank you very much!!!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!! Because of your donations and the help of others we have been handing out gift packages this week to homeless men and women. These packages contain water crackers, hats, gloves, toiletries such as toothbrushes, soap, and even shampoo and conditioner. In addition we have been able to hand out longjohns handwarmers and socks. This week alone because of your donations we have been able to feed about 40 to 50 people. Each time I and a homeless person a package of goods or food I always say the same thing, there are lots of people out here who care for you, I couldn't do this alone. I may be the one receiving the thank you and the hug but everyone who has given shares in the credit. Thank you!! May God richly bless you and your family.

Today, the day before thanksgiving I had the opportunity to feed about 15 homeless men and woman. It was cold this morning and I received many warm hugs and thanks you's. One of the young men stayed and taked to me afterwards about where he could get treatment and I advised him of where he could get help. He has been homeless for three months. After speaking with these men and women with your donations, I was able to write a large check to help get three people off the street for the next 6 months. They will receive services to assist them and clothing to help with job interviews. I hope each of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be thankful for.

Last night I received a community service award from EVMS for the assistance I have provided for the men and women who are homeless in my community. I did not know by posting my story of how I was helping the homeless for years would resonate with so many people. I wanted to take a moment of your time and tell you how the funds that you contributed were used. Several churches in my area have soup kitchens where they provide food, shelter, and a safe place to get a hot meal. I was able to provide money to those churches to support the meals for several months. Hundreds of people have been fed through this. I purchased nearly a 100 pair of boots, hundreds of socks and underwear, long johns, hats, gloves, hand warmers, and jackets. On several different occasions through different organizations provided temporary housing for women who were homeless, had substance abuse issues, and needed a short stay place while a bed opened up for long term care for the substance abuse issues. Lives have been changed because of your kindness and donations. Lastly, I was able to support housing for three separate homeless people for six months all paid for. Additional, during the six months these people are provided life skills needed to stay off of the streets after the six months was completed. I may be the one who received an award and recognition but each of you who helped share equally in the award. Thank you very much!!! The men and women whom you helped also thank you!!
I wish you heard their thank you's!!

I saw this post and it led me to Wavy 10 & now it brought me here. I'll definitely donate but this story really hit me, as I had just finished giving someone homeless some food from Mannino's that they could eat. (Granted it was leftovers but barely eaten & he seemed like he could use it more than I could and he was so thankful for it) & I had just finished saying to myself I need to start something. An organization. Something to help these people who truly need it. Just to at LEAST get them back on their feet. And here I am. If you need any help or would like to try to go even bigger than this, I would love to get together with you and some other people and make this a thing. A true organization. You're a great person for this and may God bless you.

Wow Jack! You are still at it! I haven't seen an update in a while and kind of forgotten about it. Since you continue your grassroots movement of actually accomplishing what bureaucracy has so much trouble with, I guess it time for me to donate again! One of the most motivating things about giving is actually seeing and hearing how my donations added to others are helping in my community! Thanks for continuing to make this world a better place!

Thanks for the update, Jack. I'm so glad that WAVY highlighted your noble effort. I'm happy that you were able to provide so much for these people in need, especially going into such a cold weekend. You say that our support has made a difference in their lives. That's a two-way street because it truly is better to give than to receive. You, sir, have taken "To Protect and To Serve" to a whole new level.
