New Knees for Kaiser

Kaiser is a 6-year-old certified search and rescue (SAR) German Shepherd who specializes in Area Search and Human Remains Detection.
On January 26th, Kaiser's radiograph results came back showing that he has partial CCL tears in both knees. Since he is 85lbs, without surgery to repair the tears, he will not be able to do SAR work, or even run again. The specialist recomended TPLO surgery, which costs anywhere from $2,000 - $5,000 per knee. The fundraising goal is set at $5,000 to cover the costs of surgery as well as any costs associated with Kaiser's recovery (prescriptions, time off work, follow up care, etc.). TPLO surgery is almost always highly successful, most often resulting in a "better than new" outcome. As the vet would like to wait one month between knees, the total recovery time could be anywhere from 3 to 5 months.
Due to the number of unexpected retirements of SAR K9s in recent months, the Western Washington area is currently experiencing a shortage of Search and Rescue dogs, making Kaiser's surgery and timely recovery even more critical.
Kaiser has assisted in Washington searches including the Oso mudslide, and would love the chance to return to helping the Western Washington community.
Sarah, Kaiser's owner and handler, has been involved in Search and Rescue for more than 8 years, and would like Kaiser to be able to return to the field with her to continue their work together as a team. Sarah and Kaiser recently received their Area Search K9 Certification through Evergreen Search Dogs in Clark County, Washington.
