Swimming for Trans Electrolysis!

Donation protected
My name is Jess Bradley and I'm swimming the length of the English Channel (in a swimming pool!) to raise money for a trans-owned and operated electrolysis co-operative based in Liverpool and the North West.

Trans people need access to hair removal treatment to relieve gender dysphoria. It is essential health care for many trans people. Yet often, the 8 sessions of hair removal provided by the NHS to trans women and AMAB non-binary people is not sufficient. This means that trans people, especially those who experience transmisogyny, have to fork out loads of extra money to get the healthcare they need. We need access to affordable hair removal: this is why the electrolysis coop will be offering hair removal on a sliding scale.

I started organising this project with a few friends after being turned away from an electrolysist in Manchester because the technician did not believe I was "trans enough". The fact is that trans people like me often face transphobic discrimination, or simply a lack of understanding of trans issues, from many salons. And many salons do not offer surgery site hair removal for trans women, trans men, or non-binary people. We need trans healthcare led by trans people: this is why the electrolysis coop will employ trans people who understand our needs as a community.

I'm going to be swimming the length of the English Channel (22 miles) over a 6 week period. This amounts to 1416 lengths of a 25 metre pool. I'm hoping to raise £2500 in the next 6 weeks.

The money will be used to train up an electrolysist,  buy the necessary equipment, and to register the co-operative as a business. We hope once the coop is up and running we will be in a position to branch out into lazer, but due to the higher cost of lazer machines and the fact that it doesnt work for all skin/hair types, we are focusing on electrolysis right now. Any money we raise over the costs of set up, will fund "suspended treatments" for people on low incomes.

We desperately need hair removal services which are affordable, which trans people feel safe going to, and is trans owned and operated. Please donate to the fundraiser if you can afford to, and give it a share on social media. We can't do this without your help! Thanks!
