Social Work Voter Mobilization Proj

Social workers have understood the importance of voting to political action, community power and social justice dating back the Settlement House movement. Voter engagement remains still central to social work values today! Existing evidence shows that voter engagement increases individual well-being, advances civic participation, and increases social justice. Voting is a human right! Voting yields better outcomes!

The National Social Work Voter Mobilization Campaign began in 2016 and remains a non-partisan project with the first launch of the VotingIsSocialWork.org website crafted by Influencing Social Policy, the Nancy A Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work and the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy with funding by the Fund for Social Policy Education and Practice.  The new website and the current leadership team for the campaign relaunch include faculty from  Humphreys Institute, the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research and many additional people involved in the larger task force.

This non-partisan Campaign seeks to:

·         Raise awareness of the importance of voting to social work practice and social policy;

·         Integrate voter engagement activities into class and field education for all micro and macro students;

·         Provide information about voter mobilization skills and strategies to field instructors, students, and
           faculty for use in agencies and the classroom, and

·         Ensure voter/voting access by all the people served by social workers.

We need your involvement through a variety of actions you can find on our website www.votingissocialwork.org  and we also need your financial support for the following: supporting website maintenance and hosting; staffing to update the website, communicating with relevant parties including social media and mailing list updates, printing materials to be distributed at events; modest travel expenses to events to inform people about the campaign; and developing, collecting and archiving materials to help meet our goals of education and outreach to the clients, constituencies and colleagues of social workers and beyond.

Remember, Voting Is Social Work!
