“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
With environmental literacy in America being close to 12%, it isn’t hard to see that there is a lack of accurate and effective environmental education. Sustainable Skoolie Adventure is part of the solution to the environmental crisis, based on the belief in the goodness and power of the people.
Sustainable Skoolie Adventure is born from the idea that if people had access to real environmental education, instead of the bombardment of mostly inaccurate information, an overwhelming majority would choose to make changes that better their own lives, their communities, and the Earth.
The Sustainable Skoolie is a mobile, interactive sustainable living classroom. What started as a retired Blue Bird school bus, is being transformed into a beautiful, sustainable, off-grid home. (Check out what other great skoolies look like here.) Once completed in early 2018, the Sustainable Skoolie will hit the road to travel across America with a team of environmental educators on a mission, to educate individuals, train community leaders, and inspire change. The bus will travel up to 7,500 miles each year to reach even the most remote American communities.

Stopping along the at community centers, places of worship, schools, summer camps, conferences and festivals, Sustainable Skoolie Adventure will offer tours of the sustainable home and workshops on a sliding scale, depending on community need. We believe that everyone deserves access to good education, so we won't turn anyone away based on location or financial need (or any other silly reasons, please check out our statement of inclusion on the “About” page of our website here).
Your contribution goes directly to completing the innovative and one-of-a-kind, mobile Sustainable Living Classroom and getting on the road to bring sustainability education to the masses!

MEET THE FOUNDER!
Chava is an educator and activist who has spent the last nine years working in the non-profit field, in development, marketing, and programming. Building on her lifelong passions for the environment and sustainable living, Chava created Sustainable Skoolie Adventure with hopes of empowering people to reduce their carbon footprints and raise Earth consciousness. In addition to founding Sustainable Skoolie Adventure, she is also currently working towards becoming a Certified Master Environmental Educator (caee.org). When she isn’t ripping apart of school bus you can find her hiking, cooking yummy meatless meals, snuggling with her cat companion, Virtue, or staring relentlessly at her computer screen working on ten projects at once.
I am writing you today with exciting news. We have done a complete overhaul of our website, and it’s live now! Included in the upgrade:
• Domain Name: We changed our URL to make it a little easier to remember. You can now find us at SustainableSkoolie.org, but the old domain will still redirect you there for the next year.
• Donations: You can now donate directly on our website! No need for GoFundMe, so this account will stop accepting donations by February 2018.
• Blog: Our blog is officially up and running with 4 posts so far! We will be adding a new post weekly, so stay tuned!
• Ask an Educator: You can submit your questions for an environmental educator to answer!
• New Year’s Eco-Resolutions: Submit your 2018 Eco-Resolution and we will send you periodic motivational emails to keep you on track!
• Resources: We’ve updated our resources section to include recommendations for other great places to get information on sustainability. We also have an ALL NEW Downloadable Resource of our own. The Climate Change Cheat Sheet is now available in our resources.
If you would like to continue to receive updates about the project, please head over to our website to sign up for our mailing list. You will also receive a copy of our eBook, 10 Ways to Go Green Today!
As an organization, we have made a lot of progress in the past year, not only with converting the bus, but also with the planning, organization, and recruitment of an amazing Board of Directors and Advisory Board. As a passionate group of volunteers, we are confident that we can meet our goals and complete the Sustainable Skoolie by March 2018.
As always, we are grateful to those who have gotten us this far. Thank you for your support, both financially and emotionally. But we aren’t there yet. We still need to raise AT LEAST $30,000 in the next 45 days in order to be ready for our spring tour! Please consider helping us empower communities to take the solution to climate change into their own hands!

Today is a very important day. After weeks of hearing about sales and all the stuff we "can't do without" this holiday season, it is finally a day for giving back. Today is #GivingTuesday. This is what the holiday season is really about.
In the midst of one climate disaster after another, many people are feeling helpless and we want nothing more than to help people and communities feel empowered to act. With your help, we will tour the country giving practical workshops and training local leaders how to organize their communities around sustainability.
We are still raising funds to complete the build of our mobile sustainability classroom. Our goal is to be finished and heading out on tour THIS SPRING! The bus is gutted and ready to be built out, we have a bunch of donated materials, and we just bought our solar panels, but we still need your help in order to make it happen.
We believe community is key in making good things happen, so we are incredibly grateful for our community of supporters. Thank you to those of you who have already donated, we also want to encourage you to share this important project and campaign with your friends and family. Let them know why you think sustainability and environmental education is important and ask them to donate too. It can only happen if we all work together.
Today only, if you donate $100 or more we will send you a set of handmade bulk foods/produce bags that you can use again and again, helping you to reduce your plastic waste in the grocery store. As always, please be in touch with us about sponsorship opportunities.
Please help us make this important project a reality. Let's make this world a greener place, together.
The Sustainable Skoolie Adventure Team
Chava, Audra, Jeffrey, Sarah, Dekel, and Chaya
P.S. Be sure to follow us on Istagram (@SustainableSkoolie) and Facebook for bus updates and tips for going green!
It’s been an exciting week for Sustainable Skoolie Adventure! We started out the week purchasing solar panels for the Sustainable Skoolie! I took a drive out to Moab, UT to meet up with a couple of other bus converters who had some extra panels from a large order. I got a great deal on the panels and got to spend a couple days camping and hiking in beautiful Moab and Arches National Park.
Last night we had our first ever Sustainable Skoolie Adventure Board Meeting! I would like to introduce to you our Board of Directors: Audra McClure, Jeffrey Harris, Isaiah Rothstein, and myself. I am just as excited to introduce our Volunteer Advisory Board: Sarah Schumacher, Dekel Luban, and Chaya Itzkowitz. This is really a motivated and capable group of people dedicated to bettering our planet through education and empowerment. You can learn more about the Board members at www.sustainableskoolieadventure.com/about
Looking ahead a couple weeks, Sustainable Skoolie Adventure is participating in #GivingTuesday, an international day of giving created to combat the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Help us reach our fundraising goal this Giving Tuesday, November 28. Anyone who donates $100 or more on Giving Tuesday will receive a set of handmade Sustainable Skoolie bulk foods/produce bags.
I can’t wait to get back into building the bus on Sunday. Next week I will be prepping the floors for framing.
Stay tuned for more good news! Thank you for all your support of this important project.
I'm here with some wonderful new updates for you!

In other news, we have recently started recruiting our first Board of Directors! If you are interested in being part of this amazing grassroots effort, please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Even with all this progress, we still need your help! Please help us spread the word about this project and our fundraising campaign. Every little bit helps and we can't wait to get the show on the road.
Once again, thank you to all of our donors and supporters, we couldn't do it without YOU!
With love and gratitude,
