APOL CRASH SURVIVOR NEEDS HELP

A walking miracle survivor

On May 13, 2017, at 8:30 a.m., a quiet Saturday morning, I was traveling southbound on highway 101 on my way to bible study, when I was hit head on at 80 mph by a driver on drugs who crossed over the freeway line from his north bound lane. Witnesses said he had been driving like a wild man, someone reported him to the police minutes before and we later found out he had drug charges in another state, drugs in the car, was intoxicated and had no valid driver’s license (or insurance). My car split in two, was torn apart and left in shreds. Witnesses and viewers of the attached video, which went viral, as well as several newspapers, thought this was one of the most horrific car accidents ever. My body took the impact and while I thank God every minute of every day that I am alive, I went in and out of shock, and have been left in pain, with back and shoulder and wrist injuries, hip and ankle pain, unable to work for 6 weeks to date, and I am suffering from psychological scars and fears. I only wish things could be normal again, but this has changed my life forever.

The owner of the car, in his late 20s, had very little liability insurance on his car. Needless to say, the medical bills total $150,000 to date (over $53,000 from the icu helicopter transport to the emergency room and over $75,000 from hours and hours of tests and treatment in the ER). Although I have Kaiser insurance, it remains unclear what percentage and how much they will be covering since I was airlifted to a different hospital. Some of the medical providers are already being aggressive about reimbursement of their bill. Further, while the Chevy Impala saved my life (with some help from above), I no longer have a car, there is no insurance to provide me with one, and since I commute over an hour each way to work to help provide for my family, I am in need of a safe car and have no funds.

I come from a low-income very traditional loving family, 1of 4 children from the Philippines. I did my best to work hard and go through Santa Rosa Junior College with scholarships to obtain my LVN nursing degree in 2016. I have been happy, privileged, and thankful to work as an LVN at an assisted living facility, giving back to those who are elders and need help. .As a breadwinner for the family and always the proud daughter for them; my goal was to give my parents and siblings a good life. My personal goal and biggest dream is to one day, when it is financially possible, study hard and obtain my RN nursing degree. My life has been around helping others.

All of this has had a tragic pause because one young man on drugs decided to get into a vehicle and drive, endangering the life of everyone. One man alone put everyone in danger and while I was the tragic one hit and thought I was going to die that second, a miraclehappened as I gripped the wheel of my car praying and telling my family I loved them. My car was split in half, the back passenger seat and right side were crashed; and the only part that was saved was my side, the driver's seat, as if I was wrapped in a loving hand and shielded.

I am still in the process of recovering from my on-going medical health problems both physical and psychological trauma. I am blessed that so far MRIs have not found head injuries and or fractures, but I have been told some could show up in the future (I hope not). However, I have been in so much pain since the beginning of my accident 05/13/2017through the present, with lower back problems, that I am disable. I have been active with my doctor's follow ups but it is difficult with no transportation in a somewhat rural area. I have no car and rely on UBER. I am currently not working, and it takes a long time for state disability to kick in. Meanwhile I am still fighting for my car claim insurances and stressed from the expensive medical bills. There is no recovery for me again because the driver of vehicle had no insurance and the owner of the vehicle has very minimal insurance coverage. I took my insurance out at age 25 and was unable to purchase uninsured/underinsured insurance online, even though I wanted it and tried. There is no safety net for me or for my family.

I decided to create the Gofundme in search of kind hearted people who would help me get through this traumatic life changing event.

Thank you!

Sincerely
Apol
