My name is Cierra. I am 21 years old, and in the last year-and-a half I have lost my entire family. My mother and step-father were accused of the death of my seven-year old step-sister. I was separated from my siblings who I love dearly: 15, 9, 3, and 18 months old. The younger ones are now in the custody of the state of Arizona. I am prohibited from seeing my siblings and I cannot visit my parents in jail. I can't even contact them by phone or mail due to restrictions out of my control. I have been fortunate to have a family friend host me, and for that I am truly grateful.
It’s hard to ask for help. But I need it at this time. I went from living in a warm home with doting parents where I could always snuggle my small siblings to this new and overwhelming life.
I am just starting my adult life and I am afraid. Afraid where I will lay my head down next week, afraid how I am going to eat, afraid how I will finish school if I have to work. I feel hindered by my parents’ imprisonment. Who will want to hire me now? How am I going to survive this and create a life for myself? With no immediate family and savings, I am not sure what to do.
I am praying for guidance and praying for people who can help. I don't know where to start, how to live… how to survive this tragedy. I am trying to stay in college and hoping to be an animator. (The image above is my work).
Right now, I need immediate help for living expenses, school, and transportation. (I don’t drive yet so a friend has been providing my transportation). I am also looking for a job to become more independent. I would be grateful for free counseling from someone in the community. Maybe a nutritionist to know how to take care of myself.
I know I can make it through this … I just need support and guidance. I don’t know how to do everything yet, so I am hoping there are people willing to help.
