Medical bills for Scooby’s aftercare

$785 of $3,800 goal

Raised by 12 people in 10 months
Scooby is a nearly 1 year old Great Dane mix who came from Fulton County Animal Shelter. Our family drove the 2 hours from where we live in Alabama to see another pup that was there but had been adopted before we arrived. Out of 494 dogs that were there that day; Scooby picked us. He had such a connection with our daughter who has Rett Syndrome that we knew he was meant to be in our lives. Soon after having him home with us he swelled massively over his right eye. After a trip to the vet, it was thought that he had been bitten or stung by something and was given meds and sent home. Within a few weeks the swelling had returned. This trip to the vet involved X-rays where it was discovered that Scooby had a fractured skull with bone fragments in his forehead. He was scheduled for surgery to remove the fragments & have them biopsied. After getting the biopsy results, it turns out, Scooby had a malignant Bone Tumor on his skull. Due to the rarity and complexity of this type of surgery our vet was unable to perform it. We were referred to the amazing folks at Auburn University’s College of Veterinarian Medicine who were willing to give it their all to help Scooby. The surgery was performed December 10th, 2018 and Scooby has come through it like a champ! He had the tumor removed from his skull, face and snout area and also lost his right eye. He hasn’t skipped a beat and is just as joyful as always. The surgery itself was nearly $6000.00. However we are not out of the woods quite yet. Scooby will require a few follow up exams and CT scans to monitor the site of the tumor. The appointments are not cheap. Scooby has such an amazing disposition for having gone through so much in his young life. He deserves to live a long and happy life and that is what we are striving to provide for him. Any help at all, be it donations, sharing Scooby’s story or even a simple prayer are appreciated beyond what words can express.

We are not out of the woods yet but have made it past the biggest hurdle. Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far.
