Surgery for Zane the Rescue Pup

Zane is a sweet 4 month old rescue pup who was found abandoned in the road with a severly broken paw. He needs surgery to pin the bones together which are also impacting his growth plate. 

Zane's Story

In mid November 2017, our family was driving along a dark highway 8 hours away from home when we found an injured pup in the middle of the road. The pup had just barely avoided being hit by oncoming traffic when we pulled over to check on him. He came running over and curled up in our laps- shaking and heart beating a mile a minute. 

We called the local sheriff's department who said "He was probably abandoned, either leave him there or take ownership of him." We tried local animal controls and hospitals, none of whom were willing to help. Appalled at their lack of concern for this poor pup, we decided to put him in the car with us until we found someone who could help.

We drove the pup to an animal hospital in another county who took good care of him. The next morning, we knocked on the closest doors we could find to where we had found him. No one knew of the pup, but they informed us that it was a frequent "dumping" spot for unwanted animals. 

So, unwilling to leave the pup to sit and wait for care in an animal shelter, we went back to the animal hospital and paid for his exam,  x-rays, and his leg splint. $400 later, the pup was ready to make the 8 hour trip home to New Jersey with us. 

Zane loves his new home. He is the happiest, sweetest, most loving pup, and he loves his new Dad the most. 

Zane's Surgery

Zane been in a splint or cast for three weeks now. He has now seen a Veterinarian, an ER doctor, and a surgeon in New Jersey. His bones are not healing properly on their own, and the break is affecting his growth plate.  He needs surgery to pin the bone so that he can heal properly which will hopefully allow his leg to catch up with the others and grow normally so that Zane can live a full and happy life. 

Why Go Fund Me?

Obviously, our family was not planning on rescuing a puppy, and we certainly weren't planning on accruing over $6000 in hospital bills for this pup. We are going to get him the care that he needs, but we do not yet know how we are going to pay for it.
